I’ve never heard this album before, but listening to this, I never realized how hard they were earlier on. I’m getting heavy Korn and Tool vibes from this stuff, and it makes me realize how they actually mellowed out a little bit with Sound Awake and Asymmetry (although that’s when they definitely reached their peak)

With the context of having heard this album, Themata seems to be another one of those transitional period albums that I find so fascinating and beautiful. Malina by Leprous was their big transition away from really heavy stuff and it’s by far my favorite album of theirs too. It’s these blends and fusions, like Malina and Themata, that are so amazing. Not the “perfection” artists seek to achieve their whole career, even though that is what they all gradually drift towards as they continue to gain more expertise. There’s always an unfortunate disconnect between the artist and what society finds valuable about their work. But if the creative process works well enough to give us Themata, then, well... never change, creative process. Never change.

And then to find out my favorite album has more songs available, it's a dream come true! When their new music doesn't do it for you, you dig deep in the archives. It's the follow up album I always wanted! What are the chances. I'm ecstatic! Happy Valentine's 2020 🤘
