Wow, I read some of the other posts. Perhaps you want to race around Marrowstone Island next 4th of July instead. I live there, and just down the street from Mystery Bay. It would be fun. Hit me up, if you want. I got an Ole 1987 Mirage Intimidator. I'm on FB too.

@@ericdishington428 Haha yeah, the 'day of' exceeded expectations but the backlash several months later was a little much. We will be back next year if the weather is decent and just keep our distance. Would be fun to have a group B of non-hydros do the race after they finish. (It's a lot warmer once the sun comes up anyway)

Ha, on a good day? Maybe 73-75ish. Not bad for 1987, but the Classics are more fun in a 1-2ft chop.

I def know what you mean, but consider the Donz proper in just about every aspect! Going fast cost a ton and the Donzi is about the sleekest sexiest thing on the water.

Hey man, I watched your video and read your description. From my view it was a summary of how you screwed over seven people trying to carry out an old community tradition in 12 foot boats, with 44 cubic inches and antique running gear. You even refered to us as victims. Every guy you passed that morning was sitting on his knees while trying to avoid all the other hazards, being pushed toward the beach by your wake. When it becomes unavoidable we have to cross over your trail, that is a set of 12 to 16 inch longitudinal running waves we have to push across 4 to 5 inch air traps. It takes a nice fast boat riding on a cushion of air to a difficult to control sheet of plywood trying to kick you out. It's a fire hose of seawater cutting the top of that garbage off. And it has to done 3 to 4 times, and again when the waves reflect off the beaches. So, was that a big challenge for ya? Riding around Vashon in a 22 foot Donzi with a big block Chevy and nice comfy seats? You really showed those guys, Huh? Why don't you put up your email address up. I'll send you some photos of my caved in hydroplane and work my bench full of Antique Mercury parts which used to be an expensive motor, which you created when you passed me at Dillworth and I had to suck your wake all across the north end until I ate shit. You and that other prick. I beat the shit out of my body trying to stay in front of you little pecker compensating asswipes all the way up the east side. Thinking maybe, a hydroplane might put a time up in our records that hadn't been messed with by some Dick Wad in a high powered pussy barge. Here is an idea for ya. If you want to be involved in what we do here, why don't you be a chase boat? We need people with fast boats for that. You could have helped out a 2 people who had to swim for it. You could have a supportive roll rather than eff the morning for an entire community like you did. You're not invited to participate in this race no one ever has been.. and no one comes to see your boat. Next time I eat the wake of a big boat on the 4th. I might just go to point defiance and take a dump on the hood of the tallest truck at the boat launch rather than come back to the harbor. 39:00 minutes around the island and bragging you won. My fishing boat is faster than your Donzi. SMH

Hey Karl, you have the WRONG BOAT. I have photos and chart data from Navionics that proves we were not who you think we are...

This isn't personal fellas. Run your boat how, when, and where you like. I'm just telling you your boat participating with us is like riding a Harley in a unicycle race. If that is your thing, cool man. It is not possible to run the east side, make a 180 and turn into colvos without messing with a hydro. It cannot be done. Someone will hook with your trail somewhere. Dillworth is narrow and so is the west side. What went down happened behind you, in front of me, and Jake, and the ferry workers that came and picked me up. There is no way for people, "concentrating on the first position to know what happened behind them. So, we don't have to talk about that anymore. I've made my point. All of us in hydros drive trucks, love horse power and speed. All of us have larger fast boats we can run that day too. But, thats not what that morning is about. Happy to celebrate the forth with you and Merry Christmas. You can help us or hurt us in the future. Choice is yours.

@@karlolsen9583 You couldn’t be more wrong. With all your knowledge of antique boats, you should be able to tell the difference between a classic Jim Wynn hull that’s been in use for the past half-century vs a big obnoxious boat with red and yellow head bolsters from the early 2000s. We don't "run our boat how, when, and where we like" because that would be reckless. We respect the rules in place and welcome constructive feedback if and when incidents occur. Growing up on the Sound w/ a 16ft ski boat, we are fully aware of the hazards you face on race day. Freighter waves, tug boat waves, ferry traffic, fishing boats, fishing lines, minefields of crab pots, buoys, driftwood, kelp, headwinds, crosswinds, currents, piles, boulders, sandbars, and other boaters all present an element of risk. Not everybody realizes this when they go boating in the Sound, but it's reality. We have ties to the island going back 5 generations. We grew up with Mercury outboards. My uncle was the crew chief for an unlimited class hydro team. The mini hydros have been screaming down our beach at daybreak since the idea was first conceived. Not once have we filed a noise complaint. Every time you zip around in your mini-hydro on the 4th, we have been standing by, binoculars in hand, with a boat ready to go, just in case anyone needed rescuing. As far as I’m concerned, the decision to “help us or hurt us in the future”, as you put it, rests in your hands. With all of the off-island residents snatching up waterfront property these days, the community is evolving, and most of them don’t share your same enthusiasm for loud 2 strokes ripping around the island at 5am on a holiday. Fact is, you need more folks like us in your corner to keep this event going for another 50 years - but it's apparent you'd rather making enemies instead. Next time, please do everyone a favor by doing your research before making such bold accusations.

Not us. The guy you are describing was driving something much bigger! I know because he finished a ways behind us. We ran point to point on the east side (from Robinson to the north ferry terminal) and were miles away from the action. We noticed a new boat joined in on the race near KVI beach and ran next to you guys. We kept the hammer down to get around and passed miles away when you guys were nearing dilworth. All we could see from that distance was the rooster tails coming off the hydros. If you ffw to 3:35 and zoom in on the island you can faintly see the wake coming off the other boat in front of you. Sorry to hear he swamped you but we grew up on this island and have better boater etiquette than that.

Hey man cool video, but you realize you aren't actually racing the boats right? A lot of complaints from the racers this year of you throwing off wake near them. As this event could get bigger in the coming years please just be weary of your wake, just as the STV guy has done perfectly for a decade

Hey man, you have the WRONG boat. Aside from passing the purple hydro exiting the harbor we didn’t come within a mile of another hydro. After we rounded point Robinson we headed straight to the n ferry terminal. The hydros were so far in shore when we passed all we could see was the white rooster spray. While on the east side we also noticed a bigger boat joined the race but couldn’t make out what it was. I got a video of him buzzing around in the harbor after the race that I would be happy to share.

3000k white LED strip lights available on Amazon. Easy to install. Ours are mounted under the rub rail. The lights come with adhesive backing but best if you apply over a 1/4" 3M double-sided auto exterior tape.
