Other areas for middle class to upper middle class are Los Prados, El Casique, El Millon, La Meda; all within a 20 minute drive to the center of the city (well, depending on time of day). I love La Zona Colonial, it has so much potential, great restaurants, shopping, cool breeze all day long. All that being said, at my old age I prefer Punta Cana and the "vida de campo" one can enjoy in DR.

Hi Dan, I enjoy your content ( Your personality , the places where you go, and The Restaurants that you choose ) and wish to see more. You are a young good looking male who has some money, ( Please be careful with the ladies ) Good for you. I am similar like you where I also like the Restaurants and night life in Santo Domingo. The one thing that I dislike is the Traffic, especially during rush-hour. I am a retired married Dominican, Cuban, American who has been coming to the Dominican Republic for over 50 years. OMG, how things have changed for the better. I live in Santiago and Puerto Plata and thank goodness the Restaurants are getting better in those areas. But if you really want fine dining and service, there is nothing like Dining in The Capital. It’s like you said “You have so many choices” You are so right about during the middle of the week their are many restaurants that are busy. The Restaurants that you and I enjoy are not Cheap, Yet I still find them less expensive than the USA. For Example; if you were in a nice bar or restaurant in Miami or NYC, A drink is typically $18-$26 ( $1,000 to $1,500 pesos) and let’s not talk about the really high end liquor. Now a beer on average is roughly $10-$16 ( $580 to $900 pesos ) . What I see is a average drink in the Capital is around $7 to $10 or ( $450 to $ 600 pesos ) and a beer is around $5 to $8 or ($250 to $450 pesos). Now I am talking about a high end Restaurant or Bar. The other thing I meant to mention was don’t let the negative comments bother you. I can see you like living the good life and you do not mind spending money. Not everyone is fortunate like you and I to be able to dine out 3 to 5 times a week. I’m sure there are a few hidden gems in the Capital that are not that expensive. When you find them let me know

Many people still believe that in the Dominican Republic people are transported on horses, that there are no electricity, telephones, etc. However, Santo Domingo is the most advanced city in Latin America, including the Caribbean. We have subway, cable car, public transportation, luxury shopping malls, luxury cinemas, luxury buildings, you will see all the latest model cars on the streets, international clothing brands, beaches. The only thing that santo domingo should change is the politics, otherwise it would be a second Japan in the world. Greetings from Canada, I am Dominican.

Great video! I'm in my forties looking for location independence and avoidance of the Anglo-North American rat race. However, I am shocked by the high cost of living in the DR. $5000 - 15, 000 USD per month to live well!!!! I spend $5000 CAD living well in Toronto 🇨🇦, which is considered a HCOL city. I thought DR was cheaper. The high cost will discourage a lot of expats & retirees. The Etravel Guy video says rent is $600-$800 & a decent home is $100-200K to purchase. I don't know what to believe but I understand that living like a rock star is expensive anywhere on the globe.

Even in the poorest areas we have a lot of millionaires who own a lot of rental properties and have businesses, I don’t see how some people try to make us look like this is the poorest country I guess it’s because they haven’t spent enough time here to see that. Good analogy, you just gain a new subscriber!✅

I remember a several years back i ordered an Uber in Santiago and my driver was from Venezuela. This dude was like 22 and came to the country with nothing. In a few years this dude bought a car and has his own apartment. Unfortunately in our culture many of us have a tendency to half ass our way through life and not put 110 percent effort until we migrate to a wealthier country.
