Had Semi- trucks put out of service by DOT because these brakesweren't adjusted properly the gap was great between the brakes and the brake drums.

Wait so with those white clips for the def lines do you just pinch them together to release them and take the line off? I work on semis but it’s for a wrecking yard so all we do is take them apart and I always just used a pick to take the clips off but was always wondering the right way to do it so I could do it faster.
@deethemechanic_

Yes pinching them together while pulling up will remove the lines easily with no picks needed and also get you a 3/8 plug to plug the coolant lines to avoid having to do the coolant flush and refill save you a lot of time

How would you tell if a semi tractor comes with automatic slack adjusters?

In the book it says that all airbrake systems atleast on tractor trailers since 1994 have automatic slack adjusters. That being said. Im 99% certain that this guy here has an automatic slack adjuster.

Another way is by looking at the back of the slack adjuster automatic slack adjusters such as this one does not have a nipple you have to pull out to adjust the brakes…manual adjustment slack adjusters have a nipple you have to pull out to adjust the brakes

Are you releasing the adjuster ratchet? If not, you are ruining the adjuster. That's why you have to manually adjust them.

Initial brake adjustment 1/2 turn . If you have to adjust the brakes any other time your ASA ( automatic slack adjuster ) is worn out .

True but not all rigs and trailers have ASA or not greased properly and stuck. Still good to teach the new drivers in case they need to adjust them which in our field is a must know.

@@Nothingmore71 yes, maybe we have a communication problem. You need to release the brakes and that means putting air to them. Got it? Then as you stated you can turn till your fragile heart desires. 3/4 is too much bud. Never heard of that and probably won’t ever again beyond this video. Wait, your statement assumes he released the brakes already and as soneone trying to make a video on adjusting the brakes the dummy left out a crucial peice. You assumed people know this and by that assumption I assume your a simple minded grease ball. About right?
