So, you used a mix of refractory cement and perlite for the first layer of the dome? How has it held up over the years and how well does it hold heat?

Loved every minute of this brilliantly presented oven build. Thank you both for sharing to everyone! The perlite and refactory cement really have me almost convinced of changing my plans. Question! Since you have built your oven, do you have any cracking.

Hi Vincent, how long do you leave in between the 2 coats of perlite or do you go straight on after fitting wire mesh?
@WhereintheWorldisJosh

In your instructions you say "4 bags of perlite (100 litre)" Does that mean 400 litre total or 4 bags totalling 100 litre? I've gone through 150l and I'm only 1/4 done the 2nd layer and ran out again :(
@WhereintheWorldisJosh

Hello, please I'm really curious, the cement used for the base above the wine bottles, is that normal cement or refractory cement? And the cement used in the mixture with the perlite, is that refractory cement?

Where is the smoke from the firewood end up? Out into the enviroment, where big resident aerias is? My flat is filled up with particles and smoke from burning firewood in a pizza oven. Nice. Wath. Living in this conditions you will one day catch prostata canser. I know, because i have bin in the situasion twice.

Awesome project at a fraction of the cost of buying new! How effective are the glass bottles at insulation? Calcium Silicate insulation board for pizza ovens is quite expensive!

Thank you for sharing your building process and ideas. I find yours so elegant and do-able. May I ask whether on hindsight you would have lined pottery clay as the first layer on the ball before layering cement-perlite. My thinking is that this innermost clay lining would make a better partner to the fire bricks. Alternatively, would you have lined the inner surface of the completed dome with smaller fire bricks before overturning it onto the fire bricks. I would love to hear what you think of this. Thank you.

it's perfect ! ;) thank you for documenting and sharing, as it makes me feel a bit more at ease, as it appears to me that you and I think and execute in such a similar way that we could communicate without words (you understand if you have ever met such a rare person) - this makes me feel at ease, as everyone always hassles me about time and always saying 'it doesn't have to be perfect!' - but perfection is like beauty; it is in the eye of the beholder. nothing i make will ever be perfect to me, but i can clearly recognise perfection instantly in the work of others, but this of course, is only subjective. only God is truly perfect. therefore, the pursuit of perfection is the pursuit of God. not many people understand this.

Great built and a lot of work. Now after three years of baking pizza is it still intact or are there any recommendations to improve this oven? I want to build my own one for baking bread and pizza and I am stumbling on how to. Shell I use expensive firebricks or is cement with perlite sufficient ?!? Many greatings from Germany and happy pizza baking.

Thanks, the pizza oven is still perfect just some small cracks in the chimney flu but you will probably use a different one , if you are going to use fire brick get Ready for a lot of work

Great job Vincent-not only on the construction of your pizza oven but also with your very thorough explanation of all the steps that you took to create this beauty. it’s now been three years. It be nice to have a quick update on how it’s holding up and how steak and other meats cook in this. I believe if you have a large cast iron pot with lid that you can make a slamming pot roast in this! A great job! 👏🏼 I’m considering this project and if I do-I’ll be following in your footsteps every step of the way! Going to pick up some wine now! A Big Hello from Long Island, New York! Thank you for the video! ♥️
