Seems potentially dangerous for anyone clumsy/distracted/injured to have essentially just an easily spillable tiny vial of lighter fuel they need to carefully clamp in one hand to use, but otherwise for the other say 80-95% of usecases, this seem seems great! Thanks for all the details in the video.

1:04 and 2:36 he does twice. If you are positive you have the fuel, wick, and flint all at the tip, pressure and angle are really the only other factors. It requires you to put some strength into it, not just a casual glance I imagine. What may not be too obvious in the video is that he is holding both of those objects Firmly, and his firmly and your firmly may be very different.

Completely underwhelmed, not at all what was toted as a permanent match is a pain in the butt and certainly not worth the wait time for delivery and rerouted through Porchagul from ....you guessed it China.

You can make your own cotton balls rubbed with vasoline...and dipped in hot wax to make something that will spark immediately and last for about 10 min.

Better to strike on a separate ferro rod. Away from the original container...kids and some adults can butn themselves by not keeping the reservoir steady....would have been a good idea to have an alternative cap on a chain to secure the accelerant.

@@TheBootyWrangler Excellent rebuttal. Once you have the liquid covered, your options to change the angle in which you need to strike them together exponentially grows.

Yea, tried to pull the striker out the whole tube came off the threaded cap, probably will end up throwing them away and use zippo lighter with butane insert instead of these

Your review of the SURVIVE Permanent Match has been featured on the product page on Waivio! Your detailed instructions on how to use the product, including the type of lighter fluid needed, how to strike the match, and how to fill and maintain it, will be very helpful for users. You also made a good point that it is better not to use charcoal lighter fluid or other types of lighter fluids, as they will not work well. Your tips on how to replace the wick and how to use needle nose pliers to pull out more wick is also very informative.

I just got mine in the mail today. I got the new version, the carabiner style one with the bottle opener. And I have to admit, kind of underwhelming for almost 20 bucks. When I initially saw this on some "cool gadgets" video I didn't realize it would require lighter fluid. I just added it to my amazon list, and then my wife sometimes randomly buys me stuff from my list. So, now that I know it requires lighter fluid, I'm not exactly sure what is "permanent" about it... Also, it seems like I have to keep adding lighter fluid to get it to actually light. I don't know if the filling inside is just gradually soaking up the fluid as I add it, and it will take a bit to get the filling to be good and saturated, but I'm hoping that is the issue.. It doesn't seem to be leaking at least... Seems like that should have been discussed in this video, or at least in the vague instructions that came with it.. Also, there is no mention of whether or not the filling will ever need to be replaced and exactly how to do that if needed. Also, the plastic cap that is just glued onto the top of the matchstick, I'm 100% sure is going to break off at some point, and I'm guessing when that happens I won't be able to get the matchstick out without pliers or something after that... I guess it's kinda cool for what it is, but, like I said, a little underwhelming for almost 20 bucks..

I have one and I don't like them for ciggars. In windy condition the flame doesn't go out but it's moving so much that it's near impossible to light the ciggar. Also the flame is too big you always fear burning your hair and OH my God if you have mustach it's such a pain.

Does this one not fill from the bottom? I've got a different model, and the bottom unscrews, and there's a zippo-style reservoir in the bottom, cotton and everything. This drastically lowers the incident of igniting the top

Matches have better reach for lighting tinder at the center of prepared stacks of firewood, except when compared to grill lighters which aren't pocketable. The extra reach helps when it's cold and your manual dexterity is shot to hell so that you don't knock over the stack while trying to light the center.

to be honest, I see little reason to not use a Zippo over this. It uses the same components for refuling/maintainance - but maintainance is easier, plus its more wind resistant.
