Most of the noise, shrieking actually, is from the first stage compressor. The noise is projected from the engine inlet in front.

Did you have the MT’s installed or did you buy aircraft w/them? If the former, did you log changes and improvements in ROC, cruise TAS, sound in cabin at 65% and 75%? My props are coming dud for major service, considering an upgrade if they perform better, especially if they quiet cabin. I have no issue with sound at cruise, it’s a Solitaire fitted w/super sound insulation, but my grandson is finicky with headphones and our dogs refuse to wear their doggy earmuffs
@aquacat4point1

Takeoff roll and landing roll and climb are about 10% improved, cruise may be the same or faster. Vibrations are a noticeably less. Sound does decrease about 3 decibels or more, we have completely rebuilt everything on this aircraft and it has Skandia soundproofing foam inside, and is quiet enough for no headsets. But if you just do props alone it is quieter but that's the smallest advantage they bring to the table vs the rest

One of my all time favorites! Got a bad rep for stalling but that was rectified with better training. I heard they were thinking of restarting the line. Has anyone else heard this? The 5-blades look great!

That bad rep for stalling speed is so ridiculous. The plane was initially constructed by Japanese Mitsubishi for Japanese military. So, a) it was kinda internal stuff of the country, b) neither side thought of low hour pilots or/and ease of handling. On contrary, engineers made the MU-2 a lot like a jet (including certain procedures in piloting), so that military pilots trained for jets could shift to MU-2 easier. In USA however private pilot owners became main MU-2 operators. They shifted from other turboprop or even piston-prop planes (designed for private pilot owners) and didn't know much of jet 'driving'.

@@aleksandrnestrato Thanks for sharing this. I wasn’t aware of these facts. That explains a lot. I would imagine a updated line would incorporate a more civilian ‘feel’ to the airplane. Would love to see examples on the ramp.

They are MT (Germany) 5 blades, pretty significant interior noise and vibration level reductions. Very noticeable increase in takeoff and landing performance, speed remains about the same in cruise. Biggest thing is they are composite blades, 22lbs lighter than each 4 blade ordinal hartzell, and on condition for overhaul, no 5yr rebuilds or hourly requirements, so big money saver and safety aspect In the long run as 4 blades had some issues with the hubs and required more overhauls, these 5 blade Mt's are a spectacular prop, very hard nickel plate leading edge, they don't damage easily with ground debris...

@@richardlarsen4444 Absolute false. MU-2 is substantially more safe than a 1970-s 'typical' turboprop on Americam market. FAA did an enormous research and concluded that MU-2s were totally fine. For some people it can be really difficult to turn on their brains, nevertheless it might help to understand what was wrong with MU-2s back in the day. In American market General Aviation aircraft are mainly used by not so mush experienced pilots. You will likely meet either a CPL pilot with 2,000 hours or a private pilot with 500 hours. Relatively rarely you meet ATPL pilots or military pilots with 30,000 hours of flight experience. Engineers take that into account and design planes like KingAir, which is very pilot-friendly. At the same time other American engineers who design planes like F-16 or C-17 don't think of 'not-so-experienced-pilots' at all. They meet the requirements of military pilots, who have 1) lots of flights, 2) those flights are often challenging, 3) they regularly train (private pilots train waaay less if at all by the way). Now we have the Mitsubishi MU-2. It was designed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for Japanese *military*. If you'd think instead of gathering rumors, you'd understand that military always demands for safe and robust stuff, airplanes included. The MU-2 is stiffer than any KingAir of Commander, it can land on grass and ground. The Japanese military asked to make MU-2 as close to jet planes as possible in terms of all the procedures and handling. So for an average PPL pilot MU-2 became more difficult in that very moment, however the plane was meant not for them, but for way more experienced military pilots who were shifting to the type from jets. (By the way, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries converted MU-2 into a jet. They named it Mitsubishi Diamond/Diamond II. It had SAME operation procedures as MU-2, but having more experienced pilots behind the yokes it turned to be okay. Later that plane became Beechjet 400/400A and Hawker 400XP.) Then the MU-2 got to the US and got into hands of stupid children. Except for the USA in all the countries of the world The Flight Manual of an airplane is sacred.
