It looks like you installed the exterior vent directly under the soffit with a soffit vent directly above it. In a cold climate with no wind what's going to stop exhausted moisture from entering that soffit vent and being pulled upward into the attic only to condense there? That's also a very wide soffit further compounding the problem. I'm under the impression in many areas code requires a significant distance between a side vent and any soffit overhang above it

Great video. Have to replace an old heat lamp/light combo in bath room and I believe run ducting to outside as I don't think there is any. Can I get a combo unit with a fan and light?

Should also exhaust this on the roof not the roof eve. That way the warm, moist air doesn't get sucked back up into the attic and cause mold issues.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, BUY A BREEZE! We use a product called the Breeze for our basement. It has a gentle exhaust fan (115 cfm) that is rated for continuous operation, controlled by a humidistat. Instead of replacing the exhausted air with outdoor air, it draws on the "conditioned" air from the home's first floor, avoiding the humidity problems and allergens that outdoor air present, especially on a rainy or humid day. The air quality in the basement has improved dramatically and we've been able to unplug the energy drawing dehumidifier. No filters or drains are needed. The company sells one and two-fan models that cost from $349 to $449 and carry a 5-year warranty. I strongly recommend the appliance. It's available on the company website (breezesystemsinternational.com) or on Amazon and Ebay. Much cheaper than the $1,500 to $1,800 units sold by Wave Ventilation, Humidex or EZ Breathe.

I thought one should always take the fan straight through the roof in case of a ventilated soffit. And that looks like a ventilated soffit to me.

Screw the tighten the house. Houses need to breath! Connection to vent damper is WRONG. Run goes into not out side of Vent pipe~These Panasonic fans are junk to install. If you live in the northeast as we use STRAPPING for drywall...these Panasonic's are engineered POORLY for install. Reno or NEW construction. PURE HELL!

@SumanChitturi

It's tough to do easily. The first hole used a drill bit in the center around which the hole cutter rotates. The center is gone now. So now what do you do? Especially tucked under a soffit when the last guy put the hole near a piece of trim?
@paullynch164
6 жыл бұрын
Just drill a series of small holes fairly close together half inch from the edge of the hole, wiggle the drill a bit at times and tap the resulting loosely attached half inch ring of ply/timber with a hammer! Job done!
@paullynch164

Also, a 8 inch long piece of 2x1 could have been places at the back of the hole and temporary secured to the inside of fascia by two screws from outside, thereby giving a temporary solid centre to the hole, whereupon a 4 inch core cutter could have been subsequently used to create a 4 inch hole.

Making a simple 2 inch frame, scribed over the trim above the hole, thereby giving a flat surface to fit the wall cap onto, why of course! Apart from that the guy clearly knows his onions.

@billybbob18
7 жыл бұрын
I found it out. It uses a differential pressure sensor. As I reverse engineer this thing, I'm beginning to realize that I can make a better one that accounts for more environmental variables. Mine will work at any altitude with the ability to read air density. I almost have you beat Alnor. Your device if off patent, and I can build your 3000 dollar unit for 300 bucks......You now have competition.

@stevemister5919

+Green Power Farm - Out the roof is the proper way to vent a bathroom fan if it is the shortest run. Soffit vent is a BIG No-No and that is a hack / crappy way to do it... Next best is Gable end, but usually requires longer runs. Rigid duct pipe and smoothest transitions (Read: 2 45's instead of a single 90) should be used. Then you should use the metal tape or Mastic to seal the joints if you want the job done RIGHT.. Finally you should wrap the rigid duct pipe with insulation. Too many contractors Hack it hard when it comes to bath fan venting...

kool vid...but one question...why not install the vent pipe through the roof? The hot damp air will just rise back into the attic and cause mold if you vent it out the side .
