I USE SHOOTERS CHOICE CHOKE CLEANER, I sprayed in there and let it sit for a while especially in the choke area to dissolve the plastic residue, Then I sprayed on my Copper brush and scrub it from chamber all the way to out the choke. I scrubbed the chamber area and choke area the most, It really helps loosen up all the burned plastic and caked on gun powder. I completely dry clean the shooter's choice out of that barrel, I inspect the chokes to make sure that are spanking clean. I then I run too lightly soaked ballastall cleaner/oil Is down the barrel and call it A-day, It prevents future build-up and it does not allow rust building in your barrel.

Are you sure you aren't just shining up residue (powder, plastic, lead)? Run the brush back down after you're done, I bet it will groove up again. I love the shell brass idea.

Hows the churchill treating you mate? Mine is pretty stiff in the action but it's kinda loosening up slowly but not enough yet and also bottom barrel shoots way too low which has got me shooting top barrel only in DTL. Have you had similar issues? Cheers

Great fun for the $$$. Bottom barrel shoots higher than the top barrel though, as with most trap guns. Did you get the trap or sporting version? Sporting guns shoot flatter which can make the first barrel feel like it's shooting low.

Better Name Chosen Yeah I got the sporter. But we patterned it on a board and bottom barrel was way low. Not even flat. Just bought a new trap gun because of this.

Using a guide is really optional. If you use a brass or alum rod it won't mar up the barrel

There is no reason in the world for you use a bore guide on a shotgun Smooth Bore shotgun. There is no rifling for you to damage there is no crown on the muzzle. What you're doing is just a waste of time with that.

I'm that guy you love to hate except for the ejectors and it's just easier with the bore guide. Doesn't waste any time when all you do is drop it onto the brush when you screw it together...

I would definitely do that if using a stainless steel rod, but I use fiberglass. Stainless rods need a guide like that. It would probably be a good idea using an aluminum rod too.

I usually do this. Standard CLP oil, wait, brush, and patch the shit out. Then oil and i use one sheet of toilet paper to remove excess oil and spread it evenly. I usually do it after every shooting. Few times a year i'll remove the chokes, clean the threads and add little oil and put 'em back. I am pretty sure modern shotgun with modern ammunition would work well if you just oil it after shooting though. Anyway, i have some shiny stripes inside the barrel's breech end, it's probably plastic. Can't get it off with CLP and brush. I even tried violent tornado brush once.

Hello, thanks for the video, very helpful. One question though. Is it ok to run the steel brush back and forth in the barrel? I thought the brush should only be run through the barrel from back to front. What do you think? Thank you.

I've never seen any issues come from running the brush both ways. I reckon it's the only way to get the gunk loosened up properly.

That becomes mainly a problem in precision rifles which gouges the rifling. Shotgun barrels are smooth bore and tapered. The most important part is the choke. I would not use a steel brush because it causes ugly scratches. Actually, the reality is cleaning a shotgun barrel is only for aesthetics. The most important maintenance for a shotgun is lubricating and cleaning out the action.
@MrRastaVibrations

Raising the dead here - I just saw your original post mentioned a steel brush. Never use steel. Only brass/bronze or synthetic. You want your brush material to be a lot softer than your bores & barrels but harder than the fouling you're cleaning from your gun/pistol l/rifle.

@@MrRastaVibrations Brother I have seen many who never uses bronze brush to clean their barrel when asked they say it will destroy your barrel from inside so that's why people fear using bronze brush it may scratch or put lines inside their barrels.

I have a shotgun mop but I'm somewhat lazy and don't want to switch the heads around. Ritchie, I appreciate the subscription but this is my only vid - I'm not here for credit or kudos, just to help make life easier. Best part of this vid was when my dad came down from QLD he was all excited to show me a new way for cleaning my gun - then showed me this video. I paused it and said "see that tv cabinet, lamp & Buddha head? See those picture frames?" "Yes" "Now look at my tv cabinet, Buddha head and picture frames."
