This is Lisa, the lady who created the video. If you would like to find natural remedies for mental illness... or ways to help which are not prescription drugs... here are some ideas to get started. Visit a Naturopath Medical Doctor. Naturopath MDs know all about non-pharmaceutical remedies. If the first NMD doesn't help, go to a second one. Google alternative medicine for mental illness. Google complementary medicine for mental illness. Google acupuncture for mental illness. There is a HUGE link between the food we eat and our brain chemicals. Google brain-gut connection. The first step is to read and become informed. P.S. Thank you everyone for helping me get over 1 million views.

Mental illness.is a tragedy under any circumstances. It's least understood and tolerated. items like this help a lot to show the world that people can function and be responsible been if they have mental disorders. most of us are 'a little mad' in one way or another - that's inherent in being human.

It's a terrible tragedy that the civilized world has not addressed this problem with more veracity. Most medications do not improve conditions and can in fact make quality of life even worse. And, let's not forget the fact most insurance companies only cover 15 minutes a month to a Psychiatrist with a co-pay charge many non-celebrity people cannot afford. It's tragic

I was shocked and saddened by the people that I didn't know had mental illness. I wish that our government and the world would better educate the public about mental illness so that way people wouldn't be so judgemental. And be able to medical treatment and care. Also families and friends of people with mental illness should be more loving with their families who have mental illness.

Mental Peace can be found simply by learning to "drive" you body just like you would a car: You breath BOTH your accelerator and your brake...your Inhale is your accelerator that revs you up with fresh Oxygen, and your Exhale is your "Brakes" that calms you down. (The science of it: Your Inhale activates your sympathetic nervous system, and your exhale activates your parasympathetic nervous system to "rest and digest") Try it now...focus on your exhale first (begin always with an exhale) empty your lungs and now SLOWLY take a large inhale breath and just count while you inhale..."one....two...three...four...five...etc until your lungs are full, now pause a moment, and then exhale again, at the same time say the word "Peace" very slowly, drawing out the word as you draw out your exhale....feel calmer? You can also make a humming sound to get your mind to just focus on your breath instead of your racing mind and thoughts. Quiet your mind and enter your body (heart & lungs)...this area is the seat of your "soul" or higher consciousness. Sit it a quiet, warm and safe place...you are creating a sanctuary within your own body, within your own chest, within your own heart. This is YOUR "Sanctuary of Peace" in YOUR heart (not your head) This is the basis of all meditative/contemplative practices. I love sitting in bright sunlight (think of your cat or your dog soaking in a sun puddle...copy their serenity) Face the sunlight, close your eyes and "inhale" the warm bright sunlight into your heart, while at the same time, you are inhaling perfect acceptance, tender, gentle loving kindness, compassion...just be like a baby again and RECEIVE. (The word "kabbalah" means "to receive" ) As a spiritual baby, all you need to do in the beginning is to receive the free gift of loving-kindness ...you can imagine it coming from whatever is the perfect Source of Love/Live Energy that works for you....Heaven, "God", Source Energy, Great Mother, Divine Source, Allah, Buddha, Jesus...whatever works for you. Total acceptance/Loving kindness emotional energy is profoundly healing and like water and sunlight to a plant, it nourishes, heals and grows your Psyche from within. With each inhale, say silently to yourself "Love" drawing out the word with your inhale, relax into it, and then with each exhale, say out loud or silently "Thanks" or "Peace" drawing out the word like you would pull out taffy or spin silk. With your inhale, you are just RECEIVING perfect acceptance, total love, kindness and compassion....you are perfect, whole and complete...RIGHT NOW...just as you are... right now....this is your "Day One" ...your re-birth-day, the first day you have ever received perfect acceptance ...exactly as you are.... right now. Feel it in your heart and soak it in. Love (total acceptance and kindness/compassion) is the greatest healing power you can receive (you do not have to earn it, it is a free gift! even if you think you do not deserve it, it is your birthright as a living thing. The sun shines on all living things to create life, you too...soak in this free Grace, soak in this loving-compassion, it will nurture and heal your heart. Now from your heart, this compassion energy will then nurture and calm your mind. The Sanctuary of Peace and Compassion that you have created in your heart (like lighting a votive candle within your chest) will now be a place you can return to anytime, anywhere, because you carry this safe-room within you, in your chest. Every morning you can "relight your candle" by entering your heart sanctuary through your breathing and warm sunlight. Do this for 5, 10 -20 minutes each morning and again at night and you will find it easier and easier to bring yourself into this state of loving-peacefulness (serenity) and you will experience a joy you have never known....one that will bubble up within you like a life-giving spring. YOU...are the temple... YOUR BODY is the "tabernacle"...and your Heart/lungs are the Sanctuary, the "Holy of Holies" - (not your brain) Cultivate compassion (total acceptance and gentle kindness) within your own heart towards yourself and you will find healing, Peace, joy, the feeling of hope and aliveness, serenity, and all your pain that you carry in your mind in negative thoughts, old resentments, hurts, stories, fear, abuse, neglect, and worry of the future will slowly melt away - like sunlight on ice. (Don't be afraid if you weep, this is the human bodies way of releasing pain energy (unexpressed/unconscious sadness, grief, hurt of your lifetime) Just pour it out like you would pour out vinegar from a jar. Once it is out, fill your Sacred emptiness with Divine light and Divine loving compassion/total acceptance. This is how you heal a broken/abused/neglected heart! and it will become your responsibility/daily practice/radiating joy to tend to your heart/garden each day and nurture your self. This energy will start healing your crazy thoughts too, and you will know peace in your mind and you will feel joy in your body (True serenity) You will "grow" your heart sanctuary if you practice this each day as a gift to yourself and you will learn that you are worthy of love, worthy of joy and hope and all you have to do is learn to RECEIVE with each inhale...and then give "Thanks" with each exhale.

Vivien Leigh was known to have Bipolar Disorder or Manic Depression as it was known in her lifetime. She was brave to take on the role of Blanche DuBois in A streetcar named Desire.I read that she began to unravel during filming. She also had TB which could have made her her mental state worse, many of these people listed here could have Reactive Depression in response to life events, probably much easier to treat than those whose illness comes out of the blue.I thought that the added information was great, thank you for posting.

Self-harm is usually a result of early childhood sexual abuse & alcohol is a depressant so it stands to reason that alcoholics are depressed much of the time. As for the rash of other mental illnesses, taking recreational drugs accounts for much of mental illness. PTSD is caused by trauma.

I know one thing is for sure if you suffer from depression and you learn to be self aware so you can recognise when it has taken control with practice you can learn to carry on and work through it on till it looses grip. If you suffer from Depression even if its for a short term you can learn not to take on too much in life and slow things down so as your mind can rest and recuperate. I know it doesn't always work and depression will sometimes just get the better of you and you will loose. But self awareness is a the key. Its really all about becoming self aware so as you know what your feeling and what to do. It does help you get through life and you can pass what you learn onto others.

I feel most mental illness is caused by other people; what they think of you in all aspects, how you talk, walk, look like. We worry about all those things in our personal and work life at all ages and I believe the illness' start in school as early as preschool. I have always concerned myself with what other thought of me and I tell myself it doesn't matter, but all in all it does; it had gotten so bad that at one time I was taking anti-anxiety medicine just to go to work and when I finished the prescription I said screw this I'm taking medicine because of other people, no I have to be stronger; it is hard but I am maintaining. People have screwed with me my whole life, made me feel like I didn't belong, hell I right now feel like I don't belong here, but I am not going to do anything that makes me disappear; I think it pisses some people off that I am here. So I am just going to piss people off. But, I do limit myself as to the amount of people I am around. I am alone in most of my life, but I'm not lonely and I feel safer and in a drama free zone. I guess I'm trying to say that it's hard to be strong, especially in today's world to be an individual and deal with the crap in this world and telling yourself it's going to get better doesn't help, because the world is not getting better; overall it's getting worse as each day passes and I think I'm dealing with it by becoming numb. I take care of myself and my responsibilities, but I could care less about how someone else feels. I see a car wreck and I'm like ok, hope it wasn't someone I know and go on about my business. People at work say "how are you" as a form to start a conversation and I say ok, but never ask how they are I just go on about my business. I guess this is the downside of becoming numb, but I feel the world has gotten to the point where I have stopped caring about it, because all the crap is beyond repair or control. Well enough, I just wonder if anyone else can relate.

I think everyone suffers from some type of mental illness. Sometimes it can get really bad and other times it can fade like it didn't exist. Depression is also so common that I don't give it a second thought if I discover one of my friends is getting help. I don't take antidepressants when I'm a little down, but if I get stuck in the horrible empty pit, being under the care of a good doctor is a godsend.

The Zazz school of psychology states that the human psyche becomes disoriented by serious or traumatic events in life, just as somebody who falls from a high place becomes physically injured. The psychological injury is similar to the physiologic, in that it may in fact cause an impediment to normal function later in life. The limp due to a broken knee, or the tendency to avoid strange persons, are both possible results from physical or psychologic events. People who seek council or medical solutions are some times able to improve their dilemma.

It seems like only a small portion of the society properly understands mental illness. Some consider them a character weakness, think that there's something terribly wrong with them, or even make fun of the patients. That's why I don't tell people about my conditions (I even regretted telling my parents). In order to protect myself, I don't tell people about my anxieties and slight depression. However, I really want to talk to people about it. It's hard carrying it all on myself and pretending that I'm okay when I'm not. I hope more people can understand mental illnesses, and thank you for making this video.
