Hey Colin, thanks for the info about idle speed! Do you know anything about replacing the starter? My electric starter makes some noise but isn't strong enough to turn the engine over and actually start. Obviously this question is 7 years after you posted this video, so on the VERY off chance you responded, THANK YOU

Hello, someone wrote on another video that your Symba videos are really great. I see you haven't posted for a while but I am hoping.... I am trying to remove the gas tank on my Symba but there is nothing out there for visual help. Is there a trick to the removal? Thanks in advance.

if you are alone you can use your belt to hold the wheel to the ground by stepping on each end of the belt looped thru the tire, then lift the bike like you just did

Question! I went to tighten my chain slack, loosened the axle nut, couldn't loosen the sleeve nut, but was able to tighten the chain. when I went to tighten the axle nut back, it kept spinning and spinning. What happened? Do I need a new axle nut? Am I missing something to tighten it? Thanks so much! Your videos and blog have been so helpful for me as I get to know my 2010 blue Symba!
@thegoonch1

I would guess that everything is probably okay, you just need to put a wrench on the other end of the axle bolt to keep the bolt from turning while you tighten the nut.

@@thegoonch1 thanks for the quick response. I don't know if that will help? I could unscrew it with my hand it remained so loose, without the bolt turning. I hope that makes sense. I'll check it again in the morning when it's light again.

@@thegoonch1 I went back out and my axle nut is gone. The bolt was extremely loose on the right side and the chain adjusting nut completely detached. YIKES. Do you have an email where I could send photos so you could tell me if I have all of the right parts? I'm concerned about the right side, but I don't have a diagram of it, and I don't see it here. THANK YOU!
How often do you recommend removing the chain case to clean and lubricate the chain?
@thegoonch1
4 жыл бұрын
I guess that would depend on how much you ride the bike and in what kind of conditions. If you ride in the rain a lot or in dusty/sandy conditions, I might clean the chain every 4 or 5000 miles. Otherwise I might do it once a year, while I'm doing other springtime maintenance. As long as you keep the chain lubed and it doesn't get a lot of grit in it, it's not super important to clean the chain. As for lubricating the chain, you don't have to remove the chain case to do it. You can just pop off the black rubber plug on the side of the case and squirt some lube onto the chain through that hole. As for lubing, again it depends on how much you ride it and in what conditions. Moisture and grit are the enemies of chains. I don't ride in especially dirty conditions, so I lube them probably every 2-3000 miles, it only takes a minute or two.

Do you have problems with the carburetor
@thegoonch1
4 жыл бұрын
In the 35000+ miles I've ridden it, I've had to work on the carburetor several times. Initially, I adjusted the air/fuel ratio screw a couple of times and changed the pilot jet for the next size larger. I also had to clean the carburetor jets a few times when we were on our round the world trip on them. The carb is easy to work on if you just remove the leg shields and the horn. Then you can remove the two screws that hold the carb bowl with a stubby screwdriver, giving access to the float and the jets for easy replacement or cleaning.

@thegoonch1

I'm not a mechanic, but I don't see why it would cause any problems. Many custom Cubs have the legshields removed. It's not too pretty underneath there, with the airbox and all the wiring, but I don't think it would cause any mechanical problems.

Do you know If the parts are the same as the Hondas supercub ?
@thegoonch1
7 жыл бұрын
Some are, some aren't. No one seems to have a comprehensive list of what is interchangeable. I know that the sprockets and rims are the same, but many of the engine and electrical parts are different. The forks are also different for sure. Someone has fitted Cub shocks to a Symba, but I don't know if any mods were needed. If you are interested in something specific, I would ask on the Symba page at symforum.com

Colin Uhrick I finally bought my Symba in July. It has worked fine since then ( 1900 km ) , but suddenly today while cruising at 60km/h the engine stopped. I have checked, there's a spark when I try to start, and there is gas in the tank. Any idea what it could be ? Is there some kind of security system ?

Thank you for sharing your experience. Both your adventure and knowledge. Long time rider. New Symba owner. Any more bike specific info would be greatly appreciated! Valves, carb, chain, oil, clutch, electrical etc. On my side, Stock main jet was crazy too small. Went to .75 before I left the dealer! Swapped out for smaller turn signals, chucked the vapor can. Rotated the right grip forward 90°. IRC tubes and 244 DOT dual sport tires from Shinko going on asap. I should be in Portland early August or so. Would love to buy you both a beer! Could you make a video tutorial on how to change gears smoothly and properly on the Symba100? I just bought mines yesterday and NEVER had any experience with shift gear automobiles. I've always rode in automatics and when I got on the road with my Symba there were times when I would jerk and even seem like the Symba was about to come to a complete stop when I changed gears! I love this motorcycle though, great ride and it looks amazing! Peace!

rhashad88 I'm not sure a video would be much help, it's all about the speed you are going when you shift, especially when you downshift. There are many discussions about proper technique over on the SYMForum. Try searching for "shifting" over there. There is lots of good advice about shifting smoothly and just about everything else Symba. symforum.com/index.php?board=13.0 Good luck with the new bike!

Shaun Daskam We did a ride report of our trip over at ADVRider. It's really long, but it starts here www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=716979 Shipping a bike can be easy or hard. It depends where from and to where. There is a bunch of info about shipping over at the Horizons Unlimited website. Or check with the ferry companies. Good Luck!
