This might be the best video about sport bike body position on youtube. I'm 6'3" and my height has scared me away from riding sport bikes in particular. However, after watching this I bought a '99 R6 and with your tips it's more comfortable than my office chair!

the problem i have riding a sports bike is not so much the wrist pain or back pain, but its the Neck Pain. Thats the first one to come (about 3hrs riding), then later after about 3-4 hrs riding, a little bit of wrist pain. then on about 6-7hrs riding - its the entire body .lol. not entirely sure yet if there's a way to help with the neck pain. probably my posture?....

why nobody is mentioning the most important thing... holding your body from your BACK... knees doesn't do too much support, your back has to take most of the weight when you are not leaning on the tank... and thats why so many people avoid sport bikes, bad health condition...

@66jdrod66

I did too at the begging. I knew that was not supposed to be that way. If you have a sports bike, you have to go against the grain so to speak. Your forced to lean forward so to counteract it, you have to squeeze you legs and knees into the bike, tank. That will free up your upper body and arms. Seems like a lot of work, but it will become muscle memory after a while. You need tank grips or you will just slide around back and forth. As far a passenger, I never had one on the back. Would seem to me to be so much more work to ride safely. Well hope this helps

I have been struggling with sports bike, few years back I got herniates discs and totally stopped, came back again to ride a semi sports tourer and it was really good, switched again to a super sports and the struggle is real, lock your legs and your thighs hurt, take pressure on back to ease the wrist, back hurts, take pressure on hand, elbows and wrist hurt, it’s too difficult to ride a sports bike for too long 😐 On top the hard suspensions, makes it really miserable on rough roads and low r back hurts 😢

Wow. Sorry to hear all that. The tips I gave work for most, but I can imagine if you have a history of chronic back issue it could be difficult. But as you probably already know, you get the rush of adrenaline from riding any bike. So get the bike that works for you. Enjoy and be safe.

Do you have tank grips? It’s mostly your knees that you grip the tank with. I think it near impossible to do on a shiny fuel tank without the grip pads. www.revzilla.com/motorcycle-tank-protectors I recommend TechSpec brand. Don’t go cheap you’ll regret it. Let me know how you get along.

And here is another source that says the same thing. www.eazi-grip.com/do-i-need-motorcycle-tank-grips/#:~:text=Motorcycle%20Tank%20Grips%2C%20or%20Stickers,won't%20ride%20without%20them. “What do Tank Grips do? Our Tank Grips are designed to reduce pressure on your shoulders and wrists whilst riding by creating more contact points between yourself and your bike. Without Tank Grips it takes a surprisingly amount of work to keep planted to your bike, as you have to grip harder with your knees and assist with your arms and shoulders. With our Tank Grips, they take the pressure off your body so you don’t have to fight to stay in position and therefore make riding your bike even more enjoyable.”

Not sure about a recommendation though, but if your not sure what to get, just make sure you find something that has resale value to it. Then after a few months you can try something else.
