To me there has been alot of movies to guide us n the right direction. However selfishness is the problem along side of pride n greed!!

Now that I'm older (even though this movie came out 10 years before I was born) Shep was the real Villain considering the fact that all Birdie wanted was to be like his big bro.

Birdie felt played cause he stuck it out with moms and Shep left only to come back and look down and judge him. Regardless if he was selling drugs or not. He was there through it all while Shep ran and he still welcomed him with open arms and loved his brother.. Birdie was right!! Who tf you think you talkin to?

Birdie could feel Shep's faint hug. Shep neither asked him how he's been nor is doing, when his little brother showed authentic love in his return. Birdie responded with an intentional narrative that was succinct. He let Shep know that his abandonment and prolonged absence was "Pain" ridden and burdensome for the whole family. Their mother's unanswered prayers for a messianic Shep, was formative to Birdie's development, too. He let him know that he had to become a man too soon, with no example to guide him,and that hed done it rather successfully. He invited his prodigal brother to be fruitful intge NEW family way as an equal partner, in light of, and in spite of his proven selfishness. When he extended hand was met with reproval, Birdie was washed away his inculcated devotion, but not his desire for his big brother's respect, however he had to get it. That walk away "FUCK YOU" said it all.

I feel that Birdie was the character who had exactly what Bishop from Juice was mission: more depth. This scene shows why he became the guy he was in the film and why he did what he did.
