I missed the part too on how to remove the weatherstripping. I have a '98 Camry and the tabs at the ends that lock it down kept breaking when I tried to remove them. Does the Corolla have the same tabs? If so, how do you remove it without breaking the tabs?

kzitem.info/news/bejne/y2eBv2eOfKCElqQ I go over it in Part 1. The rear weatherstrips are even easier to remove than the front. Basically just get a plastic putty knife and gently pry them up and off. These instructions are for a 01 Corolla, I don't know how they work on the 98 Camry. Thanks for your question, good luck with your project!

Rustoleum Liquid rubber would be a better option than black paint since the rubber is what allows it to function as a weather strip by preventing water from getting into your door. Plus I don't think you need primer for that. Good video though. Thanks for showing me how to get them off.

Hi, it's been one year now, been through last hot summer in 100+ degree San Fernando Valley, CA. The Permatex Headliner Spray Glue so far is holding up. I read that 3M makes the best, but it's expensive. Try the Permatex out I bought it at Autozone, I needed a little over 3 cans at $15 a can. Just make sure to follow the directions on the can. When you spray the board and the back of fabric it really runs through the can quick overlapping each spray line. Thanks for your question, hope that helps.

Did you change the front door speakers? If not , why?
@infiniteriver93
8 жыл бұрын
+ace frehley My back plastic rear speaker covers disintegrated in the sun so I had to replace those. In order to do that I had to take off the whole back panel so I figured since I had that off I might as well replace the back speakers. Replacing the back speakers was easy for me as they are just bolted in on a black plastic base which comes off easily with a socket wrench and the old speakers come off that base with just a screwdriver. The front speakers are one of my next projects, you have to take off the door panel which isn't difficult if you watch one of the KZitem videos on how to do it. The difficulty with the front speakers is they are riveted in and have to be drilled out as seen in that other guys video I put a link to in the description. I do plan on doing the front speakers in the future though, hopefully this summer. Thanks for the question, hope that helps. =)
@zackamanda9799

infiniteriver93 First off , thanks for responding back so fast. I like the way you show you are able to use the original speaker spacer. I did see some video's with the next generation corollas (2003-2007) where the speakers in front are riveted to the door and they needed to drill out the rivets and put in a new spacer and drill new holes. So I guess my 1999 Corolla LE is riveted as well. I wish they could of used screws instead of the rivets , I saw a video with a Tacoma that had screws instead of rivets in the front door speakers. I'm looking to just upgrade the speakers probably in May when it's a little warmer outside.I bought this car from a old man , it's been garaged kept and it shows. The paint is perfect , no rust , the outside rear door weatherstrips are in new condition , where many corollas the rubber paint is coming off. ( I saw your video on repainting the weatherstrips by the way , great video ) Inside is in great condition as well , no plastic cracking by the door opening's , headliner in perfect condition , never smoked in and I don't think the cup holder was ever used , it was free of any spilled coffee , ect. Only thing I had to do was change all 4 struts and springs and fix my starter with a $15.00 dollar plunger contact set from Amazon. These are great cars on gas too. Once again, Thanks You
@infiniteriver93
8 жыл бұрын
+ace frehley You're welcome and Nice! Sounds like a great deal on an awesome car! It's funny I will see a lot of Corollas that have the same issues that I've had that you mentioned and then once in awhile I'll see a pristine one with no paint issues, headliner issues, weather strip issues etc. etc. and I'm like how the heck does this car look so awesome?! You just answered my question, garage your car! Lol. My Corolla has got the beat down from the SoCal sun and that is why I've had to do all these fixes. One thing I just did recently that I wish I had done years ago is getting my windows tinted. That will help out the interior big time. Yeah I wish they used screws too on the front speakers BUT I think they do rivets for a reason. That reason being the nature of them being on the car door opening and closing all the time. They really need to be secure so you don't get speaker rattle. I've never worked with rivets nor have a rivet gun, so that is my issue with doing the front speakers right now. Thank you for the video compliment, I appreciate it. Have fun with your Corolla, they are great cars. =)

Nice video. Can you show how to get the rear strips off, they feel like theyre going to break when I try removing mine and I dont want to fuck them up?
@infiniteriver93
8 жыл бұрын
+Fucknuts Thanks, I appreciate it. I know what you mean about the rear strips, it does seem like they might break when you're trying to pry them off. They really just snap on and snap off though, they're only held in place with these blue tabs that you'll see when you get them off, same as the front ones. I bent mine a tad when I was prying them off with my fingers but was able to bend them back into shape. My recommendation would be to NOT try to pry them off by the ends of them. I did that and they bent a bit, but they did bend back. Start from the middle with some tool you can wedge under them and pry them up a little at a time. What really helps is actually rolling down the windows as much as you can and wedging your fingers between the strips and the window and prying them towards you if that makes sense. Hope that helps, let me know if that helps or if you have other questions. Good luck =)

+infiniteriver93 - Thank you for your advice. We're expecting rain so I'll be trying this in the next day or so. I have a set of plastic/resin trim removal tools laying around somewhere in my garage, I'll try using one of those so I don't scratch the paint. Thanks again.
@infiniteriver93
8 жыл бұрын
+Fucknuts It was surprising to me too that they just popped off. I took off my inner door panel thinking it would help get them off and that was a waste of time. That is a much better idea to use the plastic trim tools. I would just work under them from the middle out. I really only used my fingers to get the back strips off, I worked my fingers under the ends and the whole thing popped off. The ends bent a bit from this but I was able to bend them back. I think your way with using the plastic trim removal tools is the way to go though. Definitely wait to do it if it's going to rain. After I took the strips off I put some blue painters tape on the gap so water wouldn't get in. The blue painters tape comes off easy, I tried duct tape at first and the sun melted it and getting off the tape was a pain and made a mess. Thanks for the plastic trim removal tools suggestion, that will help people out. =)

+Fucknuts Glad I can help out, I've saved a ton of money by watching other people's fix it videos on here so it's the least I can do. I just went outside and forget what I said about the fitting your fingers between the window and the strip, you can't do that on the back ones because I forgot the back windows don't go all the way down! Or at least on my '01 Corolla they don't go all the way down. It works great for the front windows to roll them all the way down and then prying them off that way. But on the back windows use the plastic trim tools like you said. I fit my fingers under one of the ends of the strips just now and worked them under and it seemed like they would pop out just fine, but I think using those plastic trim tools will be the best way. Lol, yeah I had to use Goo Gone to get the duct tape residue off, sucked. Good luck with your project! =)

was this car in the sun for a lot of its life?? i am concerned because i want to do this to my car but i am scared that the plastic clips will break because on other cars sometimes when you take certain plastic clips of once there screwed. finding new ones that match or the right size without paying for expensive ones at the dealer can be problematic.
@infiniteriver93
9 жыл бұрын
+BIONDIEST Yes my 2001 Toyota Corolla has been fried by the Southern California sun and needs a new paint job, but I'm looking into spray painting it or Earl Scheib. My windows were not tinted until recently so the interior got fried as well hence why I had to replace the headliner. The only plastic clips that broke on mine were the three plastic rivets (plastic screws) in the back holding it up as seen in my Headliner 1.5 video on here. They cost $5 at the Toyota dealership. A lot of dealerships have online parts coupons. I have also gone to local San Fernando Valley junkyards to get replacement parts. Nothing else broke for me, just be gentle when taking off the plastic pieces. Sometimes when trying to pop off the plastic pieces I had to step back and take a deep breath because they weren't popping out, but I just worked my fingers under the piece a bit more and popped them out. Good luck with your project if you decide to do it, thanks for the question, hope that helps.

If you had a camera man or a tripod and put a little more effort into your videos perhaps some editing. I think you would have a pretty good channel with all these corolla fixes in one place.. im liking the videos but i wish it was slightly more in depth in showing up exactly how you did it. Yet this is still giving me the confidence to do all this stuff to my corolla. im picking up a 2001 corolla tomorrow for 700, 170K miles and it has the same problems your corolla does. thanks for the vids
@infiniteriver93
9 жыл бұрын
+BIONDIEST Hi, yes I agree a camera man would help and I am looking into buying a tripod when I get some more money. I agree with the editing as well, but all I have right now is Windows Movie Maker. These are the first videos I made, hence why they are not the best as far as camera shakiness and editing. But I'm learning from all this and appreciating people who make professional type videos with good editing and camera steadiness, it's harder than it looks. If I had a camera man I could have showed me doing the stuff while I was doing it which would have been better, but it's just me here so that's how the videos are. Good luck with your Corolla and your projects, the hardest part was spraying the glue on and putting the new foam backed headliner fabric on, watch other peoples videos on here on how to do that and if possible have another person help you because it was just me and I got creases as seen in video 4 in the series. The width of the JoAnn's spindles was 4 feet and that worked out perfect for my Corolla headliner. Thanks for the question, hope that helps.

I got the 6" legs as well and I think its a tad too tall. But instead of buying new ones..the bottom of the legs pop off and I might just cut them couple inches down which should give me the picture height I want. Atleast I'm not the only one using the same board and legs! Awesome. It works great!

+Nicholas Erwin I didn't know the bottom of the legs pop off, that is good advice and a good option! The 4.5'' legs worked out perfect for me height wise, but cutting down the 6'' legs might look better, so thanks for the comment!

+infiniteriver93 Yesterday I used a pip cutter to cut the legs 1.5" shorter and I managed to get them all pretty dang even so I didn't even need to use the leveling wheels. Worked really well. Here's a picture. I think it turned out well! nickerwin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/WP_20150904_08_18_40_Pro.jpg

+Nicholas Erwin Looks great! I think that is the way to go if you have a pipe cutter. Thanks for the tip!

You have one of the only videos on KZitem with this sort of tutorial. It was very helpful and informative, a bit shaky in terms of the camera though. Your advice and walk through helped a bunch for my corolla. Thank You!

Gareth T Awesome! Glad it helped you out. Watching people's "How To" videos on KZitem has totally helped me out and saved me a ton of money (like Geico;), so I decided to make these videos to "pay it forward". KZitem has a fix for the shaky video thing in the editor but I haven't decided whether to use it yet, I think I'll try it out now and see what it does, thanks for the feedback!
