It is in fact the most beautiful song, music and words that I´ve heard so far. I will also remember to let my children know my musical preference for the day they will deliver me from earth.

"You saw her bathing on the roof, her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you" - Bathsheba, whose husband was murdered by the king so he could have her. "She tied you to her kitchen chair, she broke your throne and she cut your hair" - Delilah, who cut off Samson's locks that held his superhuman strength. "But remember when I moved in you and the holy dove was moving too" - This could be a reference to the divine conception and Mary? The lines referring to the immaculate conception can also be interpreted as having a sexual connotation: "And every breath we drew was hallelujah." My interpretation; Love can look so idyllic, but it takes something so significant from you and will hurt you and turn you inside out. I understand the religious connotations, but it’s hard not to hear the sexiness in this song. I’m sure for the religious, it could be interpreted as the only true love is the one you have with ‘God’, I personally don’t subscribe to that notion. Anyway; the simplicity of the sound and complexity of the meaning, it’s the most exquisite thing my ears have heard and if it isn’t at my funeral I will not be attending! 💜

one night, i got up from my bed. it was late, everyone was bed. i came to my bedroom window, pulled back the curtain and poked my head out. it was cold and dark outside, the stars were twinkling light to my room above me. I then looked at them all for a solid minute until i took a deep breath and interally cried. i interally cried with joy because i was alive and nothing was more beautiful than the lives of people around me. remember, if you ever feel alone, the sun is lonely, but it still shines for us all.

I think the mystery about this song is that, it sounds both spiritual and vulgar in equal measure. Perhaps that's also its appeal 😊

I'm an Agnostic and do not care for religion AT ALL. In truth I despise it. That being said even I keep returning to this masterpiece. Just such a lovely song. It almost makes me tear up every time. Jeff conveys so much emotion and soul thru every single note. in 1997 the world lost a true angel.

A song that is complicated in my mind and makes me think and feel. Beautiful. Written by Lenard Cohen, of Jewish Faith, about Suffering, Joy, and Faith. Jeff Buckley sang the best version, in my opinion, but was found dead in a river. My life, as his, is also so complicated. Wake up many mornings with this great song on my mind. Again, BEAUTIFUL. PEACE AND FAITH TO THE WORLD, complicated or not.

It's the glaring pitiful L crack teeth that destroy a ton of talent that depicts a more honest version of the truth of the piece, woman's ability to tear a man away from his pursuit of God with her " lure"... SEX..which she uses as a weapon of control over man deterring him from his needs..!!!
