Rochus Misch, who was Adolf Hitler’s personal bodyguard and telephone operator, criticized the 2004 movie Downfall (Der Untergang) for its portrayal of the final days of Hitler in his Berlin bunker. Misch, one of the last surviving witnesses to those events, felt that the film inaccurately dramatized certain aspects of Hitler's character and the atmosphere in the bunker. He specifically commented that the film exaggerated Hitler's outbursts and behavior. While Misch acknowledged that Hitler could be firm and decisive, he did not see him as prone to constant outbursts of anger as the film portrayed. Misch believed that Bruno Ganz, who played Hitler, exaggerated the Führer's temper and that the film focused too heavily on the dramatic aspects, distorting historical facts. Misch also criticized the portrayal of some of the other people in the bunker, including how certain relationships and dynamics were shown. However, despite his criticisms, he acknowledged that the film had received a lot of attention and that many people were interested in that period of history.

17:56 - The danger that was described here, the whole team managed to avoid it beautifully. As it was (well) said here, Alec Guinness and Anthony Hopkins are undoubtedly very good actors (specially Hopkins, but I'm biased), but their portrayals of Hitler are borderline pathetic.

It's not enough that the Germans are the best engineers, make the best coffee, manufacture the finest view cameras - and the Leica, and so much more. I guess they're the greatest filmmakers also. Everything in the movie "Downfall" is exceptional. It's so rich you may need to watch it 6 times to digest it all. (I can't help but contrast it with American film making: childlike rubbish.)

its incredible that most actors and actresses control their own hatred of Hitler and the Nazis, and act it out unbiased. Corinna Harfouch was right in highlighting the mental health of the actors and actresses is important to carry out their respective role in this movie, to portray the villains as they are and to know what is reality and what is acting.

This isn't a film. It's a nation's collective group therapy session. Ganz was wrong about Hitler, he wasn't a mass murderer, he was far more dangerous. He inspired others to become mass murderers.

My theories for Justus von Dohyani's big angry speech and why he did it: #1: Von Dohyani was a former racist #2: what he would think in the real Burgdorf was still living and denazified #3: Justus made it up (most likely theory) #4: improvised #5: a view on them because of a great uncle and a grandfather murdered by the Nazis
@tristynbishop6158
2 жыл бұрын
What Burgdorf was saying was a firey speech against Hitler, the Nazis and politicians (the guy who played Burgdorf, Justus von Dohyani, his great uncle and his grandpa were executed by the Nazis), the barrel organ baritone Burgdorf (the actual dude) and Justus von Dohyani we're both alcoholics (the actual Burgdorf himself was an even bigger alcoholic) André Henncke believed audiences wouldn't believe him if he didn't play him like a bad guy (he was already aware that he was a horrible person and a fanatical Nazi until he died a few weeks before 9/11, he died in early August 2001), André actually couldn't act like he didn't like him The guy who played Schenck (parody creators called him "Little Jodl), everyone on his mom's side were all Jews (his grandma and 2 cousins were the only ones who survived the war) When Rolf Kanies defined the Nazis as religious freaks, what he meant was that to Nazis, it was a sort of a religion to them The master of antics called himself an asshole (there perfect asshole), a sliming and manipulative hustler, charming, the men hated him but the women liked him, Henncke was aware that he was only a small figure in the history books (German ones, not US)

There is no war that will end all wars. Wars don't bring lasting peace, only lasting death. Only the dead have seen the end of war. If we do not end war, war will end us all. War does not determine who is right, only who is left.
