I have a digiboil and the malt pipe, but haven't used it yet. I have used an indoor kettle and a biodiesel filter for 15 years. I always do full-volume mashes (no sparging nonsense). FWIW, Beersmith calculates the grain absorption, and the boiloff volume, and is right on the money every time...

I have been using the digiboil as a boiler to distill water -- I just recently bought a malt pipe, and I was hoping you would mash on camera, so I could see if I could use 1000watts. I have heard that you can only heat with 500w if there is a malt pipe in place. --- thanks

Amazing video bro! Been awhile since you posted, so I would love to see and updated video on how you do things. Are you still using the digiboil?

i love the digiboil mash kits i probarly never gonna get a brewzilla digimash + external pump do everything i need i only hope there will be new gen digiboils 35 and 65l with bowl shape bottom, manual brewing is so nice no need programming inn stuff

year after your comment, or year after brewzilla 4th gen has been put into market, yet still no bowl shaped bottom Digiboil combo. I just started brew on the electric preserve pot but I found I'm going to be somewhat limited by it's capacity for BIAB (just 27 liters total). I just don't want to put so much money into Brewzilla into future and I find Digiboil + digimash just good enough. Pump isn't going to make better beer after all. And like you, I prefer manual control.

Get the anvil foundry pump man, you really don’t want to run these systems without one. It’s cheap.

Insulating BIAB kettle for mashing is as easy as buying a reflectix insulating bubble wrap and a ductape. On top I also wrap the kettle with a blanket, and after 1 hour of mashing, I can barely tell that the temperature has dropped 1C. This aspect of BIAB would not a good justification for switch to an electric brew as suggested in the video.

3 gallon BIAB is the most manageable size for those who want to stay small and simple and works perfectly with stovetop heating option. I've happily brewed 15 or so 3gal batches so far. 3 gal mashing water heats in 30 mins or less. Lifting the grain bag is easy peasy. 3 gal batch can be done in begginners 20qt brew pot. Going directly from 1gal to 5 gal BIAB, as mentioned in the video, is a big leap.

Thanks! Hey some people have mentioned the brew in a bag might trip the thermometer in the digiboil and turn it off, have you experienced this at all?

Your video has gotten me to make the decision to get this system. i was going to get the Mash and Boil, but this is cheaper. I really appreciate you putting yourself out there and making videos. Thanks. Also...I love your Vegvisir in the background!

I'm thinking about buying the 220v version of this brewing system..are you going to do any review of it?
@dylanressler8602

I wish I could. I ended up getting the 110V because it was cheaper and I don't have an easily accessible 240V outlet. It would be nice to get faster heating times, but it's likely only a ~20 minute time save on brew day

Get the 65L 220v digiboil and do the digimash basket and an anvil pump! I have a brewzilla 65L but if I could do it again that’s what I’d do and save $300 on basically the exact same kit. Cheers!

I was very happy to see your video, as I'm thinking of getting the Digiboil system myself. I'm a lot newer at this than you, I just made my first sugar wash the other day. It is now in the basement bubbling away,for the third day. I want to use the digiboil to make a mash and to sparge for distilling. I like the way you take time to explain everything. Can't wait until your next video. I know our hobbies are a little different, but you are giving me the basics needed to get me started with the digiboil on my first mash. Thanks and good luck with your new system.
