There was a surgeon who was struck off for signing his initials on people's livers with a cauterising tool

Interestingly, there were petitions for bringing him back on, spearheaded by people he'd done surgery on. “I hope he signed mine” was a common sentiment. “Any surgeon who takes enough pride in their work to sign it ought to be celebrated, not punished” was another.
@bestbehave

@@konayasai Another one was that it left at least one of his patients severely traumatised . We don't know how many he did this to. Despite his priotestations to the contrary it's likely to be more than a couple - a number of staff have since gone on record that they challenged him in the operating theatre for behaviour. His attitude to his actions left a lot to be desired, including writing a movelised version of events that belittled those patients who were less than happy.

A UK surgeon operating on a patient’s liver signed his initials on the liver using some kind of surgical burning tool. Apparently it wasn’t the first time he’d done it, and the other doctors/nurses/anaesthetists all covered for him, thinking it was a great laugh (or the junior staff were too scared to report him). It only came to light what he’d done when there was a problem with the liver and a different surgeon operated on the patient who could clearly see the first surgeon’s one inch high initials branded on the organ. I believe the offending surgeon served some prison time for assault. Edited to add: His name was Simon Bramhall:- 'A surgeon who branded his initials on two patients' livers has been struck off the medical register. Simon Bramhall admitted using an argon beam machine to autograph the organs in 2013 while working at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He continued to practise surgery in another hospital until June 2020, and was struck off the medical register in 2022, four years after he was convicted of battery for branding the livers of Patients A and B, and almost a decade after his initials were first discovered.'

What if someone, perhaps an A&E charge nurse, wrote "you are a c*nt" with a black Sharpie on the inner forearm of an obnoxious drunk driver so they could read it when they woke up the next day. That definitely never happened in any British hospital I worked in, there was no drunk driver, I was never an A&E charge nurse and the whole thing is obviously just made up. Oh, and the Sharpie definitely wasn't lent to me by the sniggering police officer who had arrested this c*nt.
