Do you know if n18s can use a blow off adapter?
@Breakdown360DC
3 жыл бұрын
They can but I I've read mixed results, some people have had them flash up codes and others have got on fine with it. I fitted one to my friends 208 GTI which has the same engine and it's been fine. What I would say as well is that having an open air intake like an Alta or even a semi closed system like the AEM gives a brilliant blow off sound even with the recirculation valve system.

Hi bud, I just used some oil to lube it a bit and a lot of swearing and pushing 😂 I did the pipe on my friends 208 GTI which has the same engine and I actually had to cut out a plastic connection from the stock pcv section to fit to the new silicone hose. I'm not sure if I was supposed to do that with the mini but it's on now and it's tight as 😂

Yo bro I’m 17 I bought a Alfa mito as my first car (hopefully to bring my insurance down) I’m saving up for a Cooper s, just wondering if you have any advice for when looking for one and anything to avoid?
@Breakdown360DC
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment bud! First thing I would say is plan a few to check out, I know what it's like being a young guy and going to see a car you are super excited about and then just buying it haha. Moving specifically to the R56 Cooper S, a massive thing on these cars is the timing chain. Most specifically on the N14 engine (before late 2010), you should really watch out for these and preferably get one that's had the chain changed if you go for an N14. The chain issues seem to coincide with people not maintaining the oil level which causes issues because the timing chain tensioner is oil pressure activated, mini said "oh yeah you can do 15k miles between oil changes" and so cars ended up getting run low on oil and nightmares ensued. They really need fresh oil at 5k intervals max and the level needs monitored. The R56 also suffered from HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump) issues, eventually the HPFP will go, I don't know why but it just does haha. It was something I was told that you should just budget for because it was almost a guarantee. No doubt, 3 weeks after buying mine I was replacing the HPFP, did it myself but the part cost 3-400 ish quid. Next thing is the thermostat, they are prone to leak after lots of heat cycles and time. Recently just replaced mine too, pain in the arse to fit but again it only cost me the part, tell tail sign for this is coolant on top of the gearbox housing/the expansion tank level depleting. You can see the coolant leak looking down through the intake pipes on the right side of the engine. The N14 also suffered from coking issues (the valves getting covered in carbon because of the nature of direct injection engines spraying fuel directly into the cylinder and not before the intake valves which actually keeps them clean) which would basically choke the car and require walnut blasts periodically to clean the valves and get the car running good. This was due to the PCV system not being great and people had to run oil catch cans to reduce this. OKAY so onto the N18, you might of heard in the video that I have this engine. The good news about these is that the PCV system was redone for this version of the engine and you shouldn't really need to worry about walnut blasting. I haven't suffered from timing chain issues but I have installed the latest version of the timing chain tensioner as a precaution which is a bit longer so that helps keep the chain tight. I think the N18's are better off in terms of the chain than the N14's. I would defo recommend getting an N18 because they are a bit less of a headache and also have nicer face lifted bumpers and interiors (late 2010/2011 onwards for the cooper s but the JCW didn't get the N18 till later on).
@Breakdown360DC
3 жыл бұрын
The N18 is BMW's redo of the Peugeot designed N14 btw just to clarify. Also you want to check service history and make sure it's got some otherwise I would walk away. Also check if those other bits I mentioned have been done, they won't necessarily go right after you buy it but you never know! Specifically on the N14 the vaccum pump also makes a sound like a metal ball in a spray can which can be confused for chain rattle, it goes away once the car is warm. Something else to look for is the auxiliary belt condition because mine was hanging by a thread and it actually made a sound very similar the death rattle that everyone goes on about. Thankfully it wasn't the chain and a new belt cured the noise. Sorry for the short novel but there's some info for you! If you need anything else don't hesitate to ask.

i'm thinking of getting the exact same gaiter and knob of Amazon, actually looks better than the cheap sh*t that comes standard on the mk6 fiesta. off topic though, do you or anybody reading the comments know where the speed sensor is located on a mk6 fiesta flame 1.4i duratec? my speedo stopped working the day same day the car passed its MOT with flying colours (no bad for a £120 car) after looking online, most forums point to the speed sensor but i can't see it anywhere under the bonnet so any help would be much appreciated
@Breakdown360DC
7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it looks a lot better but I will warn you that the gaiter doesn't sit flush when you move the gearstick through the gears. I found this out after the video haha, and the knob can get loose which is a pain. And I imagine that the speed sensor would be located around the flywheel somewhere since that runs at the engine speed, so it probably pokes out somewhere around the larger side of the gearbox where the clutch and flywheel would meet. But that's just me guessing! If you haven't already I would join the mk6 fiesta owners page on Facebook, lots of good friendly people on there who have lots of knowledge!
@Breakdown360DC
7 жыл бұрын
Darren McGrogan Did a quick bit of research buddy and apparently depending on the year of your car the speed is either taken from ( as I guessed ) a speed sensor mounted on the bell housing of the gearbox or for later fiesta models the speed is taken by the ABS unit. Either way it sounds like a hefty job but people have done it themselves by the sounds of it.

YooJOBeCoOL sorry buddy it was a two handed job hahaha. The gaiter should have 4 slits in it at the bottom that fit the 4 clip points for the plastic ring. You put the clips through the slits and then click the ring into place so it holds the gaiter down. Hope that helps?

At the very start of the vid you can see that I have done that, once it's like that all you do is pull it over the gear stick and click in place. It also helps if you tuck the gaiter into the rim on the under side of the ring
