I liked the adjustable carbs. I would change cam profiles with welding and regrinding for performance, so AFR needed to change also. Too bad this company is not around anymore! Those Tecumseh engines would make a lot of power and stay together even at high RPM's.

Kind of disgusting how they portray their customers as complete morons. If the customer wants to be a responsible owner and learn how to service their motor the company makes fun of them.

Hey! have a question i have an Ariens ST-524 1987 snow thrower with tecumseh engine 5 hp runs smoothly on 95 and 98 octane. But with alkylate gasoline runs the engine unevenly have tried adjusting the carburetor. Is the engine too old for this fuel or is something else wrong?

That's my thoughts too. And I'd suggest more for labor and would parts even be available. I'm worn out trying to tinker with my Katrina age tecumseh 11hp and have a new generator arriving tomorrow. I've cleaned the fuel tank and lines, changed oil, cleaned out the carb and replaced the spark plug. It came to life some 7 seconds. I'll finish enjoying the video. Thanks.

Can you suggest anything for a situation where the inside of the flywheel rubs on the magneto laminate assembly?
@georgekeats1478
3 жыл бұрын
You loosen the screws and push the coil back a little until it doesn’t touch any more. You want the coil close to the magnets but not ever touching them.
@waynew2831
3 жыл бұрын
@@georgekeats1478 The coil is not adjustable in that direction. You can rotate it, but that's all.
@bushmaster2936
2 жыл бұрын
@@waynew2831 As you rotate it, it should move closer to or further away from the magnets, but not a drastic amount, but enough to clear the laminates. I am presently working on a 7HP Tecumseh that at some point in its life, the magnets came into contact with the laminates and "upset" them slightly. I am presently looking for a new complete assembly.

I have a 1974 Tecumseh HM80 and it wasn't running right. I just did the points and condenser but I only get about an 1/8" or 3.5mm max spark length on my Lisle 20700 spark tester. Is this too weak? Do you think I need to change the coil?

I've noticed in small engine repair that the customer will stand there and bald face lie to you about the "good" condition of their equipment. I worked at an equipment rental store. The rented mowers went out with a full tank of gas and an hour and a half later they would always call and say the mower stopped and wouldn't run. If you asked if they put gas in it, they'd get mad and always say yes, and you'd have to tell them to bring it back. I soon learned to say, "Well of course you probably checked that it still had gas, try pulling the spark plug wire off and putting it back on a little tighter". That was a way for the customer to save face and ended a lot of wasted time for us.

It is different on the Tecumseh twostrokes, but I only have the dimensions for the european Tecumseh engines, that might make a difference. The TA and VA models fire at 3.5 mm before top dead center, the AV models at 2.5 mm. (non outboard engines)
