Nice snd not over done. Is the cutter available? Or was it a "one-off" custom make just for you? If it is possible to get, can you give us the info or link? Thank you. Nick in Redfield Arkansas

This thing looks deadly. I plan to fish this fly on Prospect Park Lake among others this year. I got the cuter in the fall. How does this work on a trout stream? , maybe teamed up with a nymph dropper?

I love this bug. Are the hooks back in production? I bought the kit with cutter a year or so ago. I noticed the hooks available on your website a few days ago and bought 100. Thanks so much for the speedy shipping. I’ve got enough bugs tied for an entire Oregon summer. Cheers.

I wanted to thank you. I've tied a variety of floating a popper types using craft foam in a variety of colors. But none are as fast, as easy or as fun to tie as the one you showed us. Since watching your video I have tied at least a dozen in yellows, greens, pink/white. Some simple, some more complex with some ice dubbing at the rear of the foam. All look to me like they are perfect for panfish in general and nice big fat bull bluegills in particular. Bless you!

Some 12, or 15 pound mono tied cross ways on the hook shank, just like you would tie some chain eyes onto a hook, and trimmed to either 1/8 in. or 1/4 in. on both sides would keep the foam body from rotating. Maybe a drop of glue to lock it all down solid.
@stillwater62
3 жыл бұрын
Being as the hook you are using is no longer in production, maybe you can first run your thread base, then take some 12 pound monofilament line and tie it cross ways on the hook shank, like tying on some bead eyes, leaving an eighth or quarter of an inch sticking out on both sides. Maybe add a drop of glue to lock it down solid. That would stop the rotation of the flat foam.

If I might make a suggestion, make more instructional videos of how you tie your nymph flies. I like to fish for big Bluegill, and in the Summer, they are out in deeper water, so I have to use flies that will get down where they are. I am always looking for new patterns, and improvements to existing patterns, to try. I tie almost all of my flies for Bluegill but can always learn something new. Thanks for the video, hope you put out more in the future.

Your viewers can use a cricket hook and some round nose pliers to add the "kink" to the hook shank. It's a DIY solution I've put to work for this and other flies that benefit from a kink. I've also added a small glass bead just behind the eye" secured with thread. This gives the front of the body something to glue to. David

I would be afraid of weakening the hook. Some modern hooks are fairly brittle and putting that type of bend into it may be asking too much. I assume these "cricket hooks" are a long shank Aberdeen style hook? I really questioned whether or not to include that hook in the video. I tied them for many years in standard hooks with no issues. UV resin fixes any potential problems!
@dahutful
3 жыл бұрын
@@panfishonthefly cricket hooks have the same bend of an Aberdeen, but the shank is longer and the wire is not as thick. Its not at all brittle, though; rather forgiving, really. But I dont stress it with a severe kink - just enough to get a platform on it. I've never had one break, and I use them a lot for other flies like my Long Dragon. For brim and other panfish its no worry. I also use Aberdeens often. Maybe someday Ill get some UV resin, but for now, well....

Nice fly and simple. I'd have eyes on top of the shank to make it more snag-resistant and leave thread at the point of the tie in for the emu and as you tie it up the shank the thread will progress up the shank too and make it tougher for teeth to unwrap. Much like you did on finale two wraps, A trick from Tim Flagler. Great fly.
