To be honest not 100% sure. I have several. Look for a two pack on Amazon that are battery powered with red lens. I would avoid rechargeable ones at OCS since there are not many outlets.

Awesome, as i reflect on how righteous folk can lead in Skirmisher Right.., yet concern for those opting for going against grain can falter in echelon left; due to annihilation of enemy being paramount site picture, thus rendering said concern null & void, hence alltogether forsaken. Be Safe Marine & may God please continue 2 bless nevertheless! 🙏

How long should the long run and tempo run be distance wise? I have my long run at 5 miles. Also for sprints, should I be sprinting 1 lap and then walking the next?
@ocsprep435
2 жыл бұрын
The first question is all dependent on your running style. For OCS the PFT is only 3 miles so I would say anywhere between 4-7 miles for the long run will be sufficient training distance for you. Again looking to slow your pace to about 1-1 1/2 minutes of your "race" pace. For tempo runs I would say distance can be less than 3 miles axing for 1-2 miles. You can do variations to this too where you hit a sprint for 30 seconds every 3-5 minutes. Tempo runs are aimed at getting you heart rate up and your speed up to force your body to achieve something faster but for a short duration because it obviously cannot achieve the faster speeds in your "race" so you are teaching it to be uncomfortable and push through some pain. Sprints can be done a multitude of ways. For example you can do (1) Lap (400m) on the track and then walk a lap, however you will be getting too much rest in my opinion. I usually do the rule of thumb 30 seconds for rest between 400s but if I am extra burned out then I will adjust to a minute rest. You can also monitor your heart rate and aim for it to return to 100-110 beats before starting your next sprint. Bottom line if you are trying to do the full lap for recovery than it needs to be active recovery (i.e. jogging). Also for 400 or 800m sprints you should have a bottom time and fast time. Its not just go out and run as fast as you can if you want to achieve anything from your training. You have to do a little math. Example = if I want to run my 3 mile at 18 minutes then I divide the 18 by 3 to get 6 minutes per mile. I than can divide the 6 by 2 which is 3 minutes for my 800 and 6 by 4 to get 90 seconds for my 400. Now I know if I do 800m sprints that my goal time is 3 minutes per 800m but i can say that within the range of 3:15 and 2:45 is acceptable to achieve what I want out of my workout. I suggest you take whatever your fastest time for the 3 mile is and divide it out like that and then slowly over time decrease the speeds each week so you can get faster.

Is there a video on how to walk the dog?
@ocsprep435
2 жыл бұрын
I have seen some on youtube. Basically walking the dog is showing where troops will be on the ground so your visual learners can see. Use Ops Terms and Graphics to demonstrate where elements will be on the ground. for orientation you will point on key terrain, obstacles, and other features on your terrain model, for situation you will place enemy and friendly Ops terms and Graphics on the deck to show your squad where enemy units are on the battlespace. for execution you will walk everyone through your SOM and enemy reactions. Hope this helps

There is no tactical definition that defines a difference between these terms, however if you look up MCDP 1 war-fighting appendix C you should find all tactical tasks that the Marine Corps uses.

If people are so focused on just going to and doing good at OCS they're bound to be terrible leaders and probably want into the Corps for the wrong reasons.. stop enabling them.
@ocsprep435
3 жыл бұрын
Definitely disagree with you there. OCS is the first step to officership. It’s a test and being prepared has nothing to do with the type of leader you are. Some people can push through with little prep, but in my opinion if you do this you show a lack of dedication and discipline. You have to show that you can do your research and come prepared to make it. That’s the point of OCS. Leadership is developed through experience. Through preparation for OCS or TBS you demonstrate that you have the ability to learn and have the dedication required of a platoon commander. If you can show self discipline, dedication, and preparation for OCS then you most likely will demonstrate those qualities with you Marines when you devote time and energy into them. I think where people mess up is forgetting to take lessons learned and apply them when they get out in the fleet. Or when they pin LT and think they know it all, forgetting the preparation they did to get there still applies as they go through their careers.

Leaving for OCS in a month, thanks for all the helpful videos! I’ve watched all your videos and was wondering if you have anymore short hand you recommend knowing or does the content of all your videos pretty much cover what should be known?
@ocsprep435
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brooks, short hand is really up to you. For the basic level the short Hand in these videos will do just fine, however you will learn a lot more as you go. There are also tons of symbols and shorthand that you can learn that will represent different units and equipment. If you are interested in more short hand I definitely encourage you to look at some on google, just pay attention to which branch you read about as some branches will have different types of short hand. This only matters if you want to avoid confusion translating your short hand when talking in Marine Corps terms. Good luck at OCS and glad that my videos were helpful.

One of my favorite body weight workouts is super simple. Look up "spell your name" or "alphabet" workouts. Its a fun way to get in a good body weight circuit without having to think up a workout and will get you in good shape for OCS/TBS.

Hey man! I’ve been working out a lot and do great on the pull-ups and crunches. I am more worried about the 3 mile, I know you are supposed to strive for a 18 minute 3 mile, but what would be a good time going into ocs for the plc juniors?? If you could give me an answer that would be great! Thanks!

I would strive for at least a 21 min 3 mile. Anything under 20 mins should be considered really good. At least that’s what all my friends that have been OCS already have said.

Ed sorry for the late reply. TBS is a different beast and Ive been trying to get through it. For the 3 mile run I would say just focus on getting your best time possible. check out the run less run faster video. It might help you understand some of the fundamentals needed to improve your run time. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
