Probably wouldnt hurt to put a bead of silicone around the entire filter from the inside

Just replaced both on my 2017. I was able to do it all from inside the cab, just took some finessing. I tied a string to the top to help pull it in and to prevent dropping it outside. Thnx for the video.

I liked how you slid them between the bed and cab, instead of ramming them through the hole and potentially ruining the seal. Gotta do mine today. Thanks for the vid

Doug for the win! Thank you. Maybe Mopar has changed the form factor of the plastic recently, but I have a feeling that other people saying you can install the new vent from inside the cab is BS. Coming up from the bottom with a little cordage is the way to go.

@@dougb432 yeah, i had a lake under my drivers side passenger seat. I thought it was 3rd tail light, fixed that and still had flooding. I see the cab vent seal is cracked and its only on the one side where its getting wet. Crazy. I orderd 2 new vents.
@thomasmarthers5396

I want to you for this video, I stumbled on it as I thought my 3rd light was leaking. I had water in the drivers side back storage area in the back under the seat. As I was looking online for how to do it again, as I had replaced the 3rd light seal before, was looking for anything new on it, and found this video and others about the vents in the back, WHO would have thought. Anyway, I watched your video, and determined it was the vent and not the 3rd light. So I purchased 2 vents as I figured the other was bad too, do them both at the same time. Man, when I took them out, the seals were cracked and dry rotted, 3/4 of the vents were gone, man, I would have never looked to replace these 2 vents had I not found this info on youtube. I had to use fishing line, and lowered the vents down between the cab of the truck and the bed of the truck then had someone grab them from inside, and mount them, Easy peasy. Took about 15-20 mins to get the seat pulled, the 3 metal things with the straps, and the cover to get to the vents. Again, thanks for the video.

Dear Mr. Andy, Your explanations about the singer 401G machine is clear. I am from srilanka. I am in possession of a Singer 401G machine. My problem is the brush holder s for the above machine are broken. For the time being I have soldered them with lead. But I am not sure whether that will last long. It is impossible to buy these brush holders here. Can you please help me in getting down four numbers of Brush holders (Brass) for the above 401 g. Please explain me in detail about the mode of payment etc. With regards.

Great video. Good production and informational. Are there symptoms to indicate when brushes need to be replaced or cleaned? Exactly what are the brushes function?
@dougb432
4 жыл бұрын
Great question Dave. The first symptom would be a loss of power. If the brushes wear down completely the motor would suffer serious damage and stop working. Brushes conduct electrical current via the commutator to the rotating wire coils that produce the magnetic field that causes the motor to turn.

Congratulations, Doug on an excellent first KZitem video! I am your second subscriber and I have a pretty good idea who the first one is. 😀 Your close up camera work and instructions are so good that I am completely confident in performing the same procedure on the motor I have already pulled out of my 500A. I am refurbishing the machine using Andy Tube’s superlative tutorials. Acolytes of Andy Tube are legion, I suspect. I appreciated hearing the history of your 401. Your mom sewed racing silks-that’s fascinating. Anyway, thanks for what I hope is the first of many videos to come.

Nicely done, Doug. Clear and to the point. Thanks for showing us how we can do it ourselves and clean or replace the carbons. I have never used an eraser on the commutator, but I just recently read in a Model 221 Service Manual that a rubber eraser is the only thing they recommend for cleaning the commutator. Congrats on your first video and hope to see more.
