Dark Souls 2 has simultaneously the best and worst multiplayer experience. Soul Level as a concept isn't necessarily the worst, but it's implementation could be better. It also lacks password multiplayer which makes playing with friends even harder. However, the game always has 3 allied phantom slots without needing to use a special item, healing magic is 100% effective for allies, healing items are plentiful as a summon, and the enemies overall feel more balanced around multiplayer (especially the dlc, which really feels like it's intended to be played with friends). Hands down, despite the hurdles in making sure you can actually matchmake with your friends, the most fun coop experience I've had in the souls series was going through DS2 as effectively a D&D party.

I agree with the Companions and the College being the weakest writing wise but there are still great benefits to joining them. Whenever I start a new character, I ALWAYS join the Companions when I first get to Whiterun just to get access to all their skill trainers especially Eorlund Gray-Mane at the Sky Forge. I will then play out the first two quests so I can buy the Companion Wolf Armour. I play with the Frostfall hypothermia mod and the Companion Wolf Armour is the warmest heavy armour set you can have with the mod which is important when wandering the frozen northern regions where frostbite is a greater threat than dragons. Then if I plan on playing more solo, without followers, I will become a werewolf just because it can become so over powered quickly with its fear ability. You hit your action button to change into a werewolf but then if you keep hitting the button whenever you're being attacked then you'll let out a howl that causes lower ranking enemies to run in fear making them easy kills. Use fear, kill, eat their heart, repeat. Your first perk you have to put in the bottom of the tree to cause more damage with your claws, but the second perk I take is the ability to cause fear on higher level enemies never giving you the ability to scare 95% of the living enemies in the game even if you're still only low level yourself. It quickly becomes a devastating power because it has a ridiculously short cool down. As for the College, It's like the Hogwarts of Skyrim where none of the teachers seem to ever care if they lose the occasional student. If I'm doing the main quest, I'll join for the trainers there and immediately do Saarthal to get the Ice Form Shout at the end of that dungeon. It's my go to shout in combat, instantly paralyzing any enemies that get caught in the blast whether living or undead in case you ever get overwhelmed. J'zargo is also a great companion to have once you complete his quest even though he may be trying to kill you. But that final fight against Ancano at the end of the quest line is my most hated boss fight in the entire game. He's invincible for most of it unless you use the Staff of Magnus on the Eye. But the staff takes a long time to drain the eye of power while he's cheap shoting you from the sides. After 2800 hours in the game, I can often play every single mission in every single quest line without dying once, but that Ancano fight usually kills me several times each. I often use mods to do terrible things to his body afterwards out of spite from nailing him naked to the side of the College to burning his body to ash. I hate that Altmer.

@@TheAshenMage Ty! For me it’s the fact that Vyrthur literally orchestrated the prophecy to take revenge on a literal God, but Harkon only saw it as a way to stop his skin burning in the sun. Also I am quite sure and IDC who says otherwise, but Vyrthur would have smoked Harkon in a 1v1, I mean Vyrthur literally brought back frozen falmer from the dead, kept the falmer from killing him for thousands of years AND quite literally brought the roof down on the Dragonborn!! I also think as a whole. And (idk if this makes sense) but Touching the Sky as a quest and especially the Vyrthur fight feels like something out of a TV show and I can’t help but every single time I complete it, I almost act like it’s a TV show because it’s so immersive. And also the fight with Vyrthur for me feels like a season finale to a TV show because it is so epic whereas Harkon feels like something you would get at the start of a season of a TV show to tie up loose ends of the previous season.

The major issue I have with Dawnguard is that I feel like it was written mostly with the vampire side in mind (see how all the promotional material shows a vamprire dragonborn). It's to the point where the story sometimes doesn't make a lot of sense while playing as a Dawnguard. You find Serana, who carries a FUCKING ELDER SCROLL WITH HER, and you're forced to deliver her to the vampires, even if you want to side with the Dawnguard. And just to rub salt in the wound, Isran calls you out on it. Yay. I mean, sure, she'll betray her father later, but it's not like we had a way of knowing that. Being forced to give your enemies an Elder Scroll of all things kinda leaves a sour taste in my mouth whenever I do it.
@TheAshenMage
12 күн бұрын
I guess I can see what you mean but also the vampires side is the least fun one narratively if you ask me, it doesn’t make you feel heroic or even decent it makes you feel outright evil, and Harkan’s reason for fighting you doesn’t make much sense🤷🏻♂️
@mrquirky3626
5 күн бұрын
Isran calls you out if you take Serana straight to Volkihar Castle from Dimhallow, but if you release her from her crypt and go back to Fort Dawnguard first, different dialogue plays out. Serana follows you as far as the entrance to Day Spring Canyon (obviously not wanting to go into a castle full of vampire hunters) with you going to Isran alone to explain what you found in Dimhallow. Then he suggests you play along with Serana and take her back to her castle to scout out the area for the Dawnguard and report back what you find.

Honestly fully agree bro good takes. I think you exagerrated a bit on the writing and characters being perfect/great. I lowkey think the writing for later Bethesda games like Skyrim and Fallout 3 and 4 were honestly pretty bad and bland. That being said I didn't dislike the main quest, and I agree the civil war underdelivers. Post Whiterun there really isn't anything interesting thematically beyond the very end siege on Solitude or Windhelm. Also agree Alduin was lowkey disappointing and kinda just felt like a tougher dragon, which he is, but like, he could have been a more impactful villain like he was at the start when he interrupted your execution.

Bethesda can't work out how to make a game system that isn't fundamental to how the game works function and even then they struggle So in conclusion, survival mechanics are supremely uninteresting to me and in Bethesda games they would just be infuriatingly bad.
