@@meahnicholas7352 Thanks! If you can get the 40s and 41s at a heavily discounted price and don't need all the bells and whistles like on-board recording and app functionality they're still a good buy. Things like jangling keys will very rarely be an issue unless a scene is sound effect heavy, but it's a quirk of analogue wireless worth knowing about when you compare things to digital wireless. Wireless boom is a difficult one to answer without knowing what your main priorities are (e.g. sound quality, weight on the end of a boom pole, battery life etc). Personally I really like booming with the Zaxcom ZMT4 due to its lightweight and decent battery life, but I myself will not invest in Zaxcom gear for personal reasons. The Sennhiser SKP 500 G4 is probably the cheapest wireless boom solution, has good battery life and is compatible with the Wisycom MCR54 receiver, but sound quality is just ok. The Wisycom MTB40 sounds alright, battery life is decent but it's a little outdated in 2024 so isn't a great longterm investment in my opinion. The Sound Devices A10s sound great but are digital wireless and have just been replaced by the extremely expensive (but seemingly fantastic) A20.

@@JamesClark1991 Cool! Looking forward to that video. Also, would love to know if you recommend the track e as I was thinking of picking some up but then thought I should save and invest in higher quality pieces like the wisycom. Was really shocked at your review of the receivers though - so many limitations and annoyances with those units for the price.

@@SitinprettyProductions I absolutely love the Track E. I think it's just a wonderful product in every way. It wouldn't be suitable for Drama type work where you need to monitor the signal and be physically low profile at the same time. But for other applications where size isn't an issue it can be a really cost effective solution. I might make a video on the Track E soon as the latest firmware update added super useful features.

Hi, thanks for test. I have heard from many people that the SK 5212-II is much better than the Wisycom MTP 40/41. I'm not sure how it would compare to the MTP 60/61. Personally, I have the SK 5212 and SKM 5200-II with the EM 3732-II and EK 3241/6042. I can confirm that they sound very good. I have only been able to test the Wisycom MTH 410 with the Senn SKM 5200-II, both with the DPA 4018v capsule. For me, the 5200 was better.

Great review. No one else is even talking about this stuff! I own three MCR54 Quads, four MTP40s, six MTP41s and two MTB40Ss. I wish I could still get ahold of the 40 series at a reasonable price. I would be more interested in getting into some 61s if they didn’t use a separate battery system, I could put them to sleep with the Wisycom app and they could record with timecode while transmitting (can’t wait for that Zaxcom patent to run out). Just not appealing enough to upgrade right now though.

Excellent review! Especially the very last bit. I recently bought into the MCR54 and four MTP61’s. I upgraded from 18 year old Lectro UCR211 and UH200c. I started out 12 years ago with four G3 and and had the same problems you did. Switching to the old Lectros was an amazing upgrade, I’ve never had a single RF hit on them. I agree the magnetic cables can be an issue but I don’t use them as I bought the 4 port charger rack which allows group charging, group file transfer and group timecode jamming. I am hopeful waiting for firmware that will push the frequencies selected by the MCR54 out to the TX’s, supposedly this is in the works. I am also waiting for firmware that allows recording and transmitting at the same time maybe in 2025. One comparison I hoped you would have is if it is worth buying only the MCR54 and using all G4’s rather than spending $2000 each for MTP61’s. Does the MCR54 really clear out all the RF hits I experienced with all Sennheiser radios? Thx for the key test, clearly the 32 bit recording was best. You must have seen the Raycom walk test where the guy walks 600 meters before an RF hit. Your walk test seemed much closer to reality. I have not yet used my new radios on a paying job and I am a little nervous about it but surely a few jobs will build confidence.

Thanks! I brielfy cover using the G4s with the MCR54 in the range test. The MCR54 got rid of all the weird blips/drops I would get with the G4s and range was about 90% as good when compared to the Wisys at equal power. I will keep using my G4s though so I will update if anything changes under further real world testing. Yes Raycom's range test was more of a 'perfect scenario' situation. Where as mine was more realistic, with the pack hidden under a costume and with bushes as line of sight obstacles.

There are videos online with people using black construction paper rolled in a cone that is about 8" long and it works just fine. I use a series of lens adapters connected together to make a 8 or 9 inch lens hood and it works fine. I think you might consider how long the hood is before giving up on this idea.

I have quite a collection of Canon FD lenses (including an FL 55/1.2) from shooting film in the late 70's. I specifically picked up a Sony A7R2 so I can continue to use these lenses with just a simple adapter. I actually like this lens on the Sony body, but rarely go wider than f2...I find the bokeh at f2 very pleasing. If I didn't have this lens, I'd probably look for another Minolta-Rokkor 58/1.2 lens. One real advantage with the Sony body is the in-body stabilization. I rarely shoot without a tripod, but when I do each lens is now stabilized.

Hi James, I have a similar vintage lens to the one in your video: Canon FL 50mm 1.8, mounted on my Canon 80D with an FL/FD to EOS adapter. The strange thing is, that it doesn't take sharp pictures when focus set to infinity. It only renders a sharp image when I approach the lens to an object within 20 to 30 cms (about 10 inches). Do you have any hint as to what the reason for this can be?
@JamesClark1991
4 жыл бұрын
Spacing between the lens and the camera mount sounds like it's too far? You get similar results to yours when adding a 'macro extension tube' to a lens.
@sidekickbob7227
2 жыл бұрын
Late response, but it might help other users. The Canon FL,FD, and nFD, has a flange focal distance at 42mm. Your canon EF mount has a 44mm flange focal distance. In other words, the lens will not focus the image sharply at your sensor at longer distances. You need an adapter with a correcting lens inside. Otherwise you will not be able to focus the lens to infinity.

The image at f1.2 is still usably sharp and the bokeh is pretty good. The lack of multi-coating is probably the only problem with this one but it creates that vintage character. Build quality is top notch. The aperture ring on these FL lenses clicks nicely unlike the plastic ring nFD lenses. Definitely a great bargain f1.2 vintage lens.
