The set back for a knee injury is two fold for soccer players. 1) the level of play 2) health insurance coverage I played soccer for 10 years and started at age 8. When I turned 17 I tore my ACL playing in a tournament with my club team. After my injury exactly nothing was done to support my return to the game. I did not get a knee surgery until age 21. It took two tries to finally complete the rigorous 6 month rehabilitation. I am 49 years old now and realize the knee is critical and an injury is career ending for most players who have not reached the heights. I wish it was different but that was my case. There needs to be a quicker response at the local level to extend the life of sports participation. It is a sad thing when nothing is done at all.

*No matter how much research scientists carry out regarding this issue of women ACL injuries in soccer, they won't be able to avoid it because the muscular structure from the hips to the ankle is different than that of men. This is nothing new in USA soccer. It is noticeable now because women soccer has been popularized across the planet and there are more women soccer stars everywhere. The origin of ACL injuries in women start with the weight of their hips. Hips are heavier in women than in men.*

So good to see CP. She always speaks the truth. I just wish she and the other key players were paid like my favorite male player( Mbappe). If you watch videos of these two players, their styles are so unique. It's like they dance with the ball, and mesmerize their opponents towards defeats. The night before playing these two players for me, would be the equivalent to meeting Michael Jordan on the Basketball court. In a nutshell, one sleepless night. Start paying these woman. Oh, I wish Mal a healthy recovery.❤

I admire Christen as an athlete and a person, but I disagree w her opinion that the sudden jump of injuries on women players are due to double duty or overload above those of male players. Male players in top professional leagues play a much larger number of games than female professional players. Naturally that would lead to larger number of injuries if the reason was simple physical overload. I agree that leagues and federations should look more intently on the phenomenon, but jumping to the refrain of gender biases sounds accusatory and takes away from the importance of addressing the problem.

the women play 1/2 the games as the men. We already know the pelvis puts women at higher risk for injury. My guess is the very competitive women push their bodies to the extreme injuring themselves. Mallory pugh plays so aggressive, i said the same game shes going to hurt herself, and a few minutes after her 1st injury, she did. I will criticize the players, its just my opinion, being overly competitive seems to be a double edged sword.

I remember describing Press to a new USWNT fan, and saying she was a straight-up soccer assassin! She can turn & shoot faster than anybody else in the game. Some of her shots were off before the defenders even recognized she was shooting (giving them zero chance to react!). And for all Press fans out there, check out her highlights from her time in Sweden. She’s been murdering defenses with epic runs and precision goals for years! Baller. Legend. One-of-a-kind talent. Amazing human.

You want her to sound like a quitter or like she hasnt had media training as a professional athlete or like she isnt a competitor? “Oh of course I’ve given up all hope on representing my country at the highest level and have lowered my standards on my goals and dreams.” Any player that thinks like that and says it is not one that’d make it far or that Id want on any of my teams. Do I agree with you that it’s basically impossible? Of course. But I dont need her to bring such negative energy to her comeback.

@@brina1837 Idk if this was towards my reply since I did not call the original poster a "hater", even if it may have crossed my mind, so your comment may be for someone else. Still, I think the connotation of "delusional" and "waste a roster spot" are what initially made me respond. I agreed that it's unrealistic for her to comeback and that can be said in a different matter. Like I previously mentioned, she's media trained and she's got that hippie vibe about positive manifesting and all, so I cant imagine her saying she's done in such a way. I can admit I did not know about the amount of surgeries.

The issue of women and ACL injuries is nothing new and I've read about how women are built differently than men that puts them at 3 - 5 times more at risk for over 2 decades. Plus, artificial surfaces do nothing to help the situation which is well known.

I believe you are correct in stating that if these ACL injuries had taken place on the men's side, much more would have happened to understand and solve the problem. Hopefully, some trusted medical professionals are looking into it. Best wishes to you, Christen, for a complete recovery and return to the national stage.
