Alcohol suppresses blood glucose. So, when you quit, blood glucose shoots up. Diabetes is what happens to some people who quit alcohol. Happened to me; I'm Diabetic Type 1 now. You should have consulted a doctor either before or after quitting.

Thank you Miss. I’m suffering from decades of alcohol abuse. I’m trying to educate myself in order to dump this terrible habit. I know that alcohol is poison to the body. The mind is a powerful tool that can trick you into believing otherwise. It’s been a struggle. Your advice and information is a help.

You can can heal some to most of the nerve damage from alcohol neuropathy through taking a good vitamin B complex and alpha lipoic acid supplement. Workout 3-4 times a week to ensure your nerves are getting enough blood flow. Must avoid alcohol. After doing this for 6 months, I am now almost completely healed. I was in really bad shape when I stopped drinking.

It’s reversible in the early stages when only the small fiber sensory nerves are effected. Total abstinence and supplements. Google Stockholm study, prognosis alcohol neuropathy. All patients returned to baseline between 3-5 years. Dr. Wise Young. Christopher Reeves Dr. stated it’s reversible. The internet is full of misinformation, inaccurate information and just plain lies if you go down that rabbit hole.

I have advanced PN from alcohol. I drank for many years heavily, daily - bourbon. It never effected my work or family life. My wife also drank daily, but nothing to the volume that I did. A few years ago, I went almost 4.5 years without a drop. I was attending AA. Then, a couple of years ago, I had a beer which led to one small glass of bourbon which lead to daily drinking. Not with the volume I used to drink and I wouldn't day drink at all. Thing is, when I would hit my couch in the evening and have my first drink of bourbon, I could literally feel it going straight to my feet. My feet would burn with occasional sharp pains until I had drank enough that I didn't notice the symptoms any more. I haven't sought treatment because I know the issues I have are from the alcohol. I am not diabetic, which is probably the leading cause of PH. Funny enough, I'm okay with the alcohol drug, but don't want to take any other meds for this pain. There is no cure. Alcohol destroys the long nerves in the body. You can Google it - alcoholic peripheral neuropathy. Its a thing. I haven't had a drink in 9 days now and am trying to not. All I have to do is wiggle my toes to be reminded why not to drink. Alcohol is truly poison. You drink heavily long enough, you will get PH or maybe your liver gives out first. Godspeed everyone.

There is a cure. Abstaining from alcohol. 3-5 years and give the nerves a chance to heal. It’s reversible in the early stages. Dr. Wise Young. He was Christopher Reeves Dr. stated. I don’t know where the idea came from that alcohol neuropathy is perminate. Those axons can regrow. If the neuropathy does not reverse than I would start looking at another cause. Also google a research study out of Stockholm. 7 alcoholics with clear clinical signs and EMG abstained from 3-5 years and returned to baseline.

Sally, I know this was posted some time ago but your message is still very much exactly right for today. I know that people who fall under the control of alcohol (and other things) often think that they are only hurting themselves...which of course, is the furthest thing from the truth. Help is out there and life can truly become amazing again when you do finally sit in your own shit and face it. ❤❤❤

I read that drinkers should take vitamin B supplements before and after drinking. I used to do that but along the way I lost that focus. Now I am dealing with this disease and it is super painful. Sometimes I lay in the bed and a sudden pain out of nowhere feels like Iam being stabbed in my feet. It’s terrible. It’s all bc I have become a chronic drinker drowning in my pain. I never thought I would live this way but I am going to take a break and probably quit. If you are not ready to quit please try to eat healthy and take your b vitamins.

I had to go to the doc and do extensive tests though and they monitored me for the past 6 months. Last month though I got the all clear so moving forward I'm dedicated to a life of sobriety

Thank you for this video. I read that what can happen is drinking can deplete B-12 in your body and when that happens your major organs start to pull it away from your peripheral nerves like finger/hands and feet. In this way it's similar to diabetes. B-12 and other B vitas are essential for your nervous system. I only drink about 2 to 3 glass of beer a night and used to drink more, and stronger alcohol. I cut out the hard liquor but within the last few weeks I got the pins and needles in my fingers/hands. I'm going to quit totally now. Thanks for the comments and for sharing your story.

When you’re an alcoholic, you create a reason to drink everyday. 1. You had a great day! Let’s celebrate! 2. You had a shitty day. Let’s unwind. 3. Your day was stressful! Let’s relax. 4. The day went by super easy. Let’s keep the pace. 5. The kids forgot their homework. Let’s drink while getting things together for tomorrow. 6. You just need sleep. Let’s have a few to prepare. My partner said I WASN’T an alcoholic because he would have to admit he is. I’m not anymore. I’ve been sober since December 6, 2016. We are divorcing. Guess who still is? You don’t realize how much drinking destroys until you don’t drink anymore.
