Hey I'm not sure if this will be seen but I'm new to the Iowa and currently have a turbo brz but I want to build it this summer to push the boost higher. If you have any build tips or shops you reccomend I would greatly appreciate any help

Check out FT-86 SpeedFactory right here in Des Moines. That’s where I got most of my upgrades. Not sure of your current status but you’ll want to go E85, and if you’re running a stock FA20 you’ll want to keep your boost below about 10 psi.
my brz just blew up from my p@l stage 1 turbo kit so imma drop an iag stage 2 short in it with 10.0.1 I believe. But it’s supposed to push 402 hp on e85. Never got it to the dyno. How much you think with stage 2 shorty and 1050cc injectors... etc you know the build

Yes, anyone running 10+ psi on the stock 12.5:1 CR is driving a time bomb lol. If forced induction, go with 10.0:1 or 10.5:1. Ask the guys at IAG; tell them your fuel type and max psi and they’ll tell you appropriate CR. If you want HP solidly in the 400s you’ll need a built engine nonstock comp ratio and prob 20-25 psi. I’m maxed out at 15 psi with this Vortech setup even running the smallest pulley. Go E85, always. 1050cc’s will be fine but don’t get cheap Chinese knockoffs.
@blueninja03

@@namelast4606 If you are running boost, drop the comp ratio on your rebuild or you’ll likely blow again. Too much boost and too high of static comp ratio will exceed an engine’s effective compression ratio threshold resulting in detonation issues, possibly catastrophic again. Run E85 if at all possible!

So this is just an iag short block, and everything else is stock? Just wondering I'm thinking of doing it to my brz to get my power goals of about 450whp
@blueninja03

I have a few of the mods listed but no, there are a lot of aftermarket mods in conjunction with the short block (injectors, fuel pump, valve springs, ethanol content sensor, tune of course, upgraded V2 supercharger, Gates RPM series belt, stronger head stud bolts, racing clutch, etc.). If you want 450 you’ll have to go big turbo (along with a bunch of mods to support that) or somehow make a Vortech Si3 or V-1 H/D blower work with this kit instead of the V2 or V3 H67B blower. If you want to safely get to 450 I would plan to invest $10,000 in the car and you should consider a 2.1L stroker engine. Let me know if u have more questions. Happy to help.
@blueninja03
3 жыл бұрын
The setup I have is limited to about 15 psi due to spin rate of the Vortech blower so I’m maxed on boost and power. (I also don’t think I’m at 416 RWHP even though that’s what the dyno showed-feels more like 350-375.) To get to 450 you’ll need to push 25-30 psi into a built engine (definitely not the stock 12.5:1 CR engine).

Just under the hood probably $10,000 including install and tuning. Total car mods brings it to around $20,000 in upgrades...including rebuilding after blowing the stock FA20. 😖 I have all the numbers in my file for insurance purposes but off the top of my head those are ballpark costs.

Because 12.5:1 is too high of compression ratio for 15 psi forced induction regardless of engine internal upgrades. A 12.5:1 engine would produce 31 more HP but at the risk of tearing itself apart.

@anonymous I did not do an initial dyno run bone stock nor after just the catback, but the L76 made 305 rwhp all stock. It has the Borla catback with x-pipe in this video with the SLP headers. (Not sure about the s type.)
@blueninja03
9 жыл бұрын
SLP Headers = $900 Borla catback exhaust = $800 You should be able to get these from www.RPMSpeed.com You'll need to retune your engine if you put on new headers though. Just catback is a straight bolt in swap. :)
@MightyDMV
9 жыл бұрын
when you go to retune your engine after adding headers, is it mandatory? or is it suggested so you can get the most power out of them?
@blueninja03
9 жыл бұрын
You'll need a retune since you'll also be replacing the catalytic converters with each header. The oxygen sensor is located after the cats and they communicate with the Electronic Control Module (ECM) which adjusts the air:fuel ratio accordingly. So you'll need to retune the ECM for the new oxygen concentrations leaving the high-flow cats. (FYI, my SLP headers required us to weld in a threaded sensor bung on each header, post cat, for the stock O2 sensors but that's a simple "fix".) Without a tune you'd run high risk of engine and exhaust components overheating. Plus, the tune is where they "find" the optimum power. :)
@blueninja03

@anonymous HP gain from just a catback would barely be measurable but it’d be a must when installing headers. (Along with a tune and CAI.)

@anonymous It made 349 RWHP. If you were listening to the voices on the video the guys tuning it said “Did it lock? I don’t think it locked” meaning the dyno didnt record that run. Since this video I rebuilt the engine removing the displacement on demand with a new (but tame) cam and it made 402 RWHP on 87 octane.

@anonymous I had to rebuild mine because I had a stuck lifter, a common problem on the L76 engine. 4 of the 8 cylinders have unique lifters which allow the active fuel system management to work. You’ll likely experience this at some point so it might be good to have a contingency plan in place. Here’s an excellent article on the L76 engine: www.onallcylinders.com/2018/10/25/l76-car-engine-upgrade-guide-expert-advice-l76-car-engine-mods-maximize-performance/

@anonymous For my rebuild we replaced the valve train and went with LS7 lifters, upgraded to forged pistons & connecting rods, replaced the valley cover, a fairly tame cam, and a few other “while you’re in here might as well do ‘this’” mods. This article doesnt discuss torque converters (stall converters) though. If you go even with a moderate cam you’ll need to upgrade your torque converter. I retained the stock converter and still get a decent amount of push on the driveshaft when in drive but stopped.
