If I'm not mistaken, 'Festival '81' was the one where Erv got his hands on some great Sam Goldwyn films --- "Dead End," "Stella Dallas," "The Princess and the Pirate," "The Westerner," "The Best Years of Our Lives," "Pride of the Yankees," and all those great Danny Kaye comedies.

Oh, man! I watched this as a kid. I so wish I could find more of these… Erv and this show was my introduction to horror when I was a kid. I’d buy some of these old episodes!

This was my youth. Grew up in Olney, ILL. And would watch all the horror and monster movies on Friday nights. I cherish those moments.

I loved seeing the old Horror Night graphic here.. Erv Coppi was vital in my cinematic development, introducing me as a young lad to the entire Universal Monsters catalog, as well as all those great Abbott & Costello movies, which I remember aired before the horror movies on Friday night. I still have my Erv Coppi Horror Night T-shirt, which is unfortunately about six sizes too small now. Thanks for posting this, great memories.

Erv Coppi is THE MAN. I miss WSIU's "Movie Theatre," especially the Friday night horror flicks. Erv researched and wrote the intros/outros for all the movies himself (unlike TCM's Robert Osborne and Ben Mankiewicz) and his films had no commercial interruptions (unlike Me-TV's Svengoolie). I remember many of the films Erv introduced us to in the late '70s and early '80s, when "Movie Theatre" was at its zenith --- "The Jolson Story," "Citizen Kane," "It's a Wonderful Life," "Holiday Inn," "The Bank Dick," "Duck Soup," "The Glenn Miller Story," "Destry Rides Again," "The Westerner," "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon," "Hans Christian Anderson," and many, many more. I spoke with Erv in Sept. of 2015, and he's doing very well for a gentleman of 89. Long live Erv Coppi!

This is back when channel 8 actually had something worth watching like classic films. Channel 8 is now total shit.
