Everything today with young drummers is technique and equipment,,, I’m 70 and have playing technique, can play anything at anytime , and can go any ware ,,,play for the music only ,,, that is awhole nether thing ,,, all the technique in the world wont make you a musician

In passages that mix triplets and 8th notes, are you meant to play the 8ths straight, or should you swing them a bit?

i play them straight, which creates a 3:2 polyrhythm

Thank you so much for this inspiring hour with lot of inside informations about the great Allan Dawson!! Today I made my first recording of the ritual together with a very talented student. It was very demanding to play the hole ritual by heart and this lesson was very helpfull for my preparation. Big Thanks of course also to John Ramsay!!

John Ramsay way my drum teacher at Berklee back in '84-86. Helped get me through all the requirements for graduation in a very direct way....always thankful for his help and instruction

This is on "the drummers complete vocabulary" a book by John Ramsay. The Rudimental Ritual was passed to him by Alan Dawson.

Mr Ramsay I have this book with the different muscles in matched and traditional grip and the muscles for traditional are 4 not 3 ....two for upstroke and two for downstroke ...thanks for the great information about hand technique .
