Two reasons I will never forgive Disney for cutting this scene: 1. It explains their love so much and can also show that a person can change for the better and it’s just a beautiful song that ties to the ending when Pocahontas and John Smith switch roles when they say: JS “I can’t leave you.” P: “You never will. No matter what happens, I’ll always be with you forever.” And Number 2: The Sequel

While I would never want a man like the real life John Smith, I'll forever want a Disney one. He was capable of change, had honor, and was true to his love for Pocahontas in the sequel (although I never acknowledge that one ever existed)

I'm glad they included it in the specific edition. If this is Mel Gibson actually singing voice, he missed out on a musical career! I would listen to his songs.

Lethal Weapon the Musical by Legolambs made better use of this song because of the relationship the two main characters had built between each other. This is still good in its original context but even in the parody song it had more weight behind it if you were a fan of Lethal Weapon.

Don’t care how many soft clowns this comment triggers. But fuck princess and the frog! If they were going to retheme splash mountain (should’ve never been changed in the first place) it should’ve been after Pocahontas, only Disney princess that made the most sense for the ride. Disneyland wise the ride was in critter country. Who were Pocahontas’ friends in the movie? Ride is a log flume…what did Pocahontas go down waterfalls in? Please tell me how Tiana makes more sense other than being a racial band aid. (Mic drop)

I know this is unnacurate, I wish it was more vague on who she was based on because who knows, this could’ve happened, but not with Pocahantas (a child who was raped). Disney should’ve made it just any Native American woman and I feel like it could’ve been ok. They still rightly villainized the British, but they made it seem like the child that was sexualized was a beautiful woman the whole time. Anyway, I love the movie, and I respect the woman, Matoaka.

i remember seeing this movie as a kid, my dvd had this song inserted along with the scene and it was somehow when i realised at such a young age that i was feeling something towards them that i did Not exactly have towards the other disney couples, hearing john tell her "i'd rather die tomorrow than live a hundred years without knowing you" did something to my brain. rewatched it for the first time as an adult after so many years when i was 20 (despite already having some knowledge about the historical inaccuracies amongst other things) and my god did the feels resurface back, it made me fully think that yep, disney's pocahontas and john smith were the first romance i felt something so intensely for without being aware of it. and here i am, age 26 at present and still thinking fondly about these two and most especially this song just because it heals the inner child in me........<3

Remember when Disney used to do romance? I wish they use that in Wish. Yes not everyone is romantic (I’m not, but even Iike the romance in Disney. Disney hasn’t done that for a few years. I think that enough taking a break.

as someone who had trauma in their childhood and didn’t receive love, John smiths words hit so hard as a kid. I used to imagine my future partner and finally feeling love. I totally forgot about this song as a teen and adult and now rediscovering it, having loved and lost someone, this song hits even harder. because even though I can’t be with him anymore… I will always be grateful to the one who came along and loved me. ❤

*"If I Never Knew You"* was cut before *_Pocahontas_* was released in *cinemas* (June 1995) and was not included on *VHS* (February 1996) nor *DVD* (January 2000) but it was put back in the movie for the *10th Anniversary 2-disc Special Edition DVD* (May 2005). However, a pop version performed by *Jon Secada* and *Shanice* has always played during the end credits.

Lyrics: If I never knew you If I never felt this love I would have no inkling of How precious life can be If I never held you I would never have a clue How at last I'd find in you The missing part of me In this world so full of fear Full of rage and lies I can see the truth so clear In your eyes So dry your eyes And I'm so grateful to you I'd have lived my whole life through Lost forever If I never knew you I thought our love would be so beautiful Somehow we'd make the whole world bright I never knew that fear and hate could be so strong All they'd leave us were these wispers in the night But still my heart is saying we were right For if I never knew you (there's no moment I regret) If I never knew this love (since the moment that we met) I would have no inkling of (if our time has gone too fast) How precious life can be (I've lived at last) And I'm so grateful to you I'd have lived my whole life through Empty as the sky Never knowing why Lost forever If I never knew you
