Only person I’ve found that plays that intro on time instead of off beat like everybody else’s cover

there's quite a few tutorial renditions of this track and this is one of the best. Only problem I found is either the guitar is slightly tuned out of key or the capo or its placement has skewed the fret pitching the sound higher. Apart from that I love the intro, another johnny marr gem...

Can you post a full tab turorial to the whole song?

Can someone explain the tuning? I’m in standard tuning and put the capo on the 2nd fret so it would technically it would be in F# Major but I see it’s written out in E Major. Do we tune to D standard over all then put the capo on the 2nd to act like it’s in E? First time trying some Johnny Marr and I know he does stuff like this but just wanted to check in lol

Nope, when playing with a capo all the chord names and notations are written as if the capo was the open strings, so what an F#maj7 would be without a capo if you played the same voicing with a capo on the second fret it would now be written as an Emaj7 (Even though the notes are those of an F#maj7 chord. A better way to put it is to imagine the capo is the open strings and that every fret now changes number depending on where the capo is and the names also change to the corresponding fret numbers (even if the notes aren't correct for the chord name)

the tab is badly written you are playing an F#maj7 not an Emaj7

I am fine with writing the tabs out relative to the capo, but the chord names should match what's actually being played and not relative to the capo.
@someonequinof

chord names with a capo are written relative with it, not based on the notes. It's confusing but that's how it is standard.

This was always one of my favorite of Johnny Marr's hooks. The counterpoint just works so well against the backdrop of an otherwise extremely simple and repetitive chord progression.
