The Topps for the 89/90 is slightly more valuable than OPC. We were told growing up that OPC print runs were less than Topps but when you look at the key players RC's of the 80's the POP report shows very similar numbers.
@Hockeytube19
26 күн бұрын
True, I think for us in the states, OPC was so exotic! Topps just had a bad habit of double printing cards due to the smaller sets.
@thehighlanders607
26 күн бұрын
@@Hockeytube19 If they were double printing cards, should that not be reflected in the POP reports?
@Hockeytube19
26 күн бұрын
I don’t know about these reports, is that for graded cards? For example, the 84/85 Topps set, what makes this a rather inconvenient set to collate is that 99 of the 165 cards are double printed, while 66 of the cards are single printed. For example, Steve Yzerman’s card is one of the 99 double prints, which means that you would most likely find one in every nine packs. Lafontaine’s card is one of 66 single prints, which would be found roughly one in every 18 packs. I think that is reflected in the sale price of these cards. I don’t know if that helps or not…
@thehighlanders607
26 күн бұрын
@@Hockeytube19 Yes, I understand what you are saying. What I am trying to convey is that when you combine The POP reports at PSA and Beckett, you have similar number of graded cards of Topps versus OPC. Since OPC was supposedly printed less than Topps, there should be way less graded OPC cards, when the numbers show they are close to even on all of the major stars.
@Hockeytube19

Fun comparison. Didn’t realize that OPC was half as many cards in a pack and no sticker. I opened a 1987 baseball pack a few years ago and the gum turned to dust when I chewed it then spit it out. Wait until you get to 200 subscribers to chew a piece.

Love this card design of 83-84. Awesome Ray Bourque. I came over here from JD66Cards. Couple questions. Why did Topps not print cards for a couple years? Did they not have a license? Or, was it not worth not a money maker. I always thought since the 70’s OPC bought Topps’ design and printed in Canada, is that the case? Congratulations on 100 subscribers.
@Hockeytube19
Ай бұрын
Great questions! All I can find is that Topps "declined" to make hockey cards for two years. They did make the sticker album and stickers instead, maybe they thought that was the way to go? For the most part, OPC copied Topps design and printed in Canada, but always included more cards and players in their sets, but with lower print runs. OPC always seemed to print on a nicer card stock but also seemed to suffer from more quality control and cut issues.

Loob is the only Swede to score 50 or more goals in the NHL. He was at 49 goals with one game left to play of the 87-88 season. The coach basically never took him off the ice in that final game, and his teammates spent the entire game trying to set him up for a goal. He scored a power play goal late in the 3rd period, managing to hit 50 goals.
