It was better in the sixties. cleaner streets and dirtier people. Runaways and dropouts, hippies and flower children, easygoing cops, burned out musicians, drunks and druggies, whores of all genders, leftover beatniks, frauds and conmen, Hari Krishnas and Moonies, hustlers and rustlers, fake doctors and naughty nurses. And lots of young visitors from Weehawken, Union City. Jersey City and Hoboken looking to get corrupted. Victims and perpetrators ambulating through a Petrie dish of human weakness, desire, sin and remorse. Money changed hands, but not in very large amounts. The most interesting people you ever met, each with a compelling story. Gone forever now - thanks in large part to that scum Giuliani.

I love this Video and Song, perfect visual combo. I found it a few years ago, and it was my Intro to old obscure underground heavy blues/early rock tracks, even proto-metal and proto-punk.

When graffiti had style and flair instead of shockingly childish scrawls. And when the ancient past of sex slavery wasn't the present. Sex workers were paid and not captives lucky to be alive.

A trip down Memory Lane. That guy talking to the Black kid, who is looking away. The kid is sexy, I would have been happy to converse with him. I used to look at the gay porn magazines in the shops. Once I got real lucky and a hustler approached me and I conversed for a minute or two and we went to my room in the New Yorker. But I had to leave the next day. I still think of him sometimes. He was one of the best!

It hooked me straight away. Last kind words being plucked away then cut to the song, 4.55 I always heard the Rabbit sing it as rule, I noticed on David Johanson version of Last kind words he also sings a different word. Great choice of songs, really enjoy his versions as well as sweet nuthin live oh and the Alabama song. Really enjoyed this clip thanks for the upload

The thing to remember is that there were diamonds under the dreck. Historic theaters with magnificent architecture bloomed from the 1890's to the 1920's and most except for a handful survived and were returned to their previous glory. Four theaters were demolished to put up the Marquis Theater in the 1980's and there were large protests in the theater community to try to prevent it.

NAME A RARE hard to find MOVIE that you ONLY READ ABOUT in the PSYCHOTRONIC BOOK (when it was NEW) that you FINALLY SAW MANY YEARS LATER : ME: "Sweet Savior" was supposed to be a "Manson" type movie w/ Troy Donahue. Totally UNWATCHABLE . "The Night God Screamed" HOLY $hit ! This is PSYCHOTRONIC to the max. This IS a "Manson Inspired " thriller with an intricate plot (that's both clever and silly) that involves HOME INVASION & a cult. The DOUBLE SHOCK ending is BELIEVABLE & HORRIFYING ! Do not watch this ALONE in a darkened house ! Good copies can be had on the "grey market". This movie NEVER made it to television; IF it did ; you'd know it like you know and LOVE "Don't Look in the Basement". Thank me LATER.

Wow, this was awesome and the music so fitting! I was a 19-year-old kid from Houston Texas when I first stepped foot in New York City! Couldn't wait for so long! It was everything I expected! This video reminds me exactly of how it was. I moved back there permanently in 1985 and stayed until 2000. Boy, what it a different place when I left! Also went back a few years ago for a visit. Sadly, the fun and exciting New York in this video is gone forever. Thank God for my memories! Thank you for this video, I really loved it!

@chrisquinn9104 - Yeah, that was him in "Water Power", the film about the enema bandit. Jamie wanted his ashes scattered in Times Square when he died but changed his mind later when they cleaned it up saying the Square would now contaminate his ashes.

This guy was ahead of his time. Now with the internet and its many online communities, there could've been some dedicated theaters and movie palaces to support independent/"non-mainstream" movies remaining on 42nd Street. What a bygone era.
