A very peaceful lovely village. I wish I could live in such a nice village! As you mentioned, there are a lot of artifacts in the church. The old effigy on the coffin caught my eye as I've never seen one in my country. As to effigy, one of my dreams is to see the effigy of Robert ll ( a son of William the Conqueror) in Gloucester Cathedral. Well, someday. I love your singing 😊 Greetings from Japan

Piscina is a latin word for what you saw, a type of sink over a soak away, for getting rid of water which might have something sacral about it, like the water blessed by the priest for inclusion into the chalice, just a drop used, the rest to be got rid of, possibly used for washing the fistulae used for communion of the precious blood. There does not seem to be a corresponding English term. In modern Italian piscina means a swimming pool!

Lots of these stolen, one time, Catholic churches, which were occupied by protestants as places of worship, are white washed inside, probably because of puritanism. When the white wash is removed one can find wonderful art revealing the tenets of the Christian faith.

Brilliant that Rich, and even better that your in my neck of the woods, a interesting church for you to check out, if you've not already, is the one at Dinsdale right next to the banks of the river Tees. I was over walking the wasteland at the Gar the other day and the abundance of wild flowers there was amazing, if you have a look at the vid I did, called wildcamping in the vango torridon, at the end as I'm walking back I stop and look at some flowers, I've no idea what they were but maybe you could help identify them ? Anyway I've subbed and will be watching your other vids today, Atb Mick 👍👌

Thanks Mick, I'll take a look at your video. I know that church very well as I walk along the river there ALL the time! The church itself has always been closed when I've had a look, though. Most country churches were built during the 100 years before the Reformation. Only the Abbeys were destroyed, most parish churches were taken over by the Anglican church. Unfortunately most of the beautiful medieval artwork and carvings were destroyed - it's always a delight when you come across something that survived.

There is something so special about entering a church and immediately feeling the peace that is the presence of the Holy Spirit. Even more so in places that have been home to centuries of prayer and worship. They truly are houses of God.
