IMO, OTF is the best EDC because, out the pocket, opened, used, closed and back in the pocket one handed SAFELY without gymnastics. (Picture being on top of a ladder with only one hand free)

there's just something magical about the handle itself for me it just feels perfect in my hand and is so smooth and screams quality. I have a stormtrooper ultratech and its my edc not a safe queen. I love it.

my Ultratech is one year old this month, I bought it new. and carry it legally everyday. I use it daily as well. Would I buy it again after having one for about a year? Yes I would and I did my research prior to this purchase, I have the M390 blade just like you and from all of the research that I've done it's perffered over LMAX but you get what ever they send, M390 is not always available, hang on to it :)

I just received my Smock. I like everything about it except the choil. That choil could have been shaped into a finger choil (I know it’s necessary for the button) but instead, it has that abstract shape that is not functional. If that choil gets caught during a cut, it will probably either ruin the cut, strip the knife out of your hand, or both. For that reason alone, I don’t think the Smock will become my everyday carry.

I wish I had never heard of this damn knife.. cause it is perfect, even flips.. damnit. My poor wallet cowers at Spyderco nowadays lol. But steer clear of ZDP189 Spydercos cause damn that stuff is hard to upkeep for your average Joe. I sold mine cause I couldn’t care for it the way it needed. The Crucible steels are where it’s at.

awesome video bud. I just got into these knives and it is addictive. I bought a Combat Troodon and a Ultratech. I do carry these but the Combat troodon is more of a defensive knife. The Ultratech is a defensive blade too but i will use it ( but not abuse it lol ). I will spend the money for good quality items, to a point. I ve seen these going for 2k plus. No way I m gonna carry a 2k knife ( or buy one ) but some people collect these and more power to you. I do like nice guns and knives. About 500 is the most i ll pay for a knife though. I use to think they were more for show till I saw some of the torture test of these. That is when I really got into these.

You aren't being honest here.... No one spends that much money on a knife just to open up packages as any $10 knife will work just fine for that. You bought that knife to have a reliable and intimidating self defense weapon and I don't blame you. I have an OTF for the same reason and there is little other reason to carry one.

I needed a glass breaker to pull a couple out of their CRV they rolled over in. I had to bash the windshield out and use my hands. They were stuck in their seats by the seat belt. Obviously I had to help them, they were in shock from hitting the ground inside. A glass breaker would have been nice.

OTF’s and auto’s of any kind are illegal in my state to both own and carry. Fortunately, I don’t find myself getting searched by police officers that often... Or ever, really. In fact, in the last 10 years I’ve had exactly 0 of those types of encounters with law enforcement. So I buy and carry whatever the hell I want.😉(Lately it has been my Signature Series Microtech Ultratech Hellhound DLC)

I edc a smock for several reasons. It has a good functional blade. I love the inconspicuous pocket friendly flipper which never gets in the way like others do. The button compression lock is also highly functional and better than the normal version. These opening and closing mechanisms are ideally usable wearing leather gloves too! I hate the style of scales but they function perfectly for grip and I’m not worried about damaging them at work. Stylistically the knife has a lot of swagger built in. The blade shape and hollow grind remind me of a straight razor. That’s cool because That’s how I shave whenever there’s time. The only downside is the large cut out at the base of the blade edge. I know it allows the button lock to function, but it does slightly reduce the function of the cutting edge. Sometimes when cutting cord or especially netting, material will get caught in the large “sharpening choil”. Over all a great edc knife. I love it.

I absolutely love my Smock. It and my Shaman are my favorite carry knives, albeit they are on different ends of the spectrum. The Shaman is a do anything beast but still carries well. To me the Smock is a knife James Bond would carry; sleek, elegant, but still deadly. And by James Bond I mean the Sean Connery version.

I hear the m390 is better in some ways ( it's harder / holds an edge longer but is harder to sharpen ) the price in my local shop is $300 and that's more then I'd like to spend but my woman loves me so I'll be getting one under the Christmas tree this year and it will be my EDC for the rest of my life or at least its life and from all the research I've done and felt in hand the 85 is a perfect EDC for most the 70 is the ultimate EDC for your key chain and the ultratech is better suited for med/large hands... but the best way to tell is to pit hands on them in person I really liked the 85 but I went with the ultratech because it's just a little bigger and fills the hand just that much more for my needs... 🥃cheers🍻

If you have the money and want a reliable rugged made in America product that will last a lifetime I would get it 10/10. I'm looking et the trodon. As next purchase. My goal is to have 1 of every knife model (not make as it is in the hundreds lol)

I've carried my ultratech for edc for 2 years now. I value the fact that I can deploy it and retract it with one hand. It has done everything from cutting cardboard to cleaning squirrels and has never failed. I did send it in to Microtech a month ago for sharpening and I couldn't be happier.

Your review touched on most of the same things that I consider when choosing and edc knife including the arm shave sharp but use it all the time.I pulled the trigger on a new one right after viewing. I'm not sure why I liked your review so much I watched quite a few and they're mostly from gear nerd "experts" full of jargon nervously flipping the thing open and closed twenty times while yours is about the fact you really do like and every day carry it also what you like about the knife but presented kinda chill regular guy like finished up with a "Thank You" at the end.

I have always carried EDC folders-- have around 50 or so. In past 6 months I've been on a Microtech buying spree. Bought 15 Microtechs in past 6 mos including 4 Cyphers, 3 Combat Troodons etc etc. But I just bought my first Ultratech last week-- OD Green handle w M390 stonewash blade looks same as yours. It is now always in my pocket as my new EDC. Loving it. Scary sharp and perfect size for EDC. I also have a UTX-85 but it is a bit too small for my hand-- the Ultratech is perfect size for me.

I loove the knife but tbh Its a little big to carry clipped to my pocket so I find myself carrying my Ontario RAT2 more often. But my microtech is with me almost always whether on my night stand, back pack, or in my car. That m390 steel is amazing.

I have tons of knives and my Microtech utx85 quickly became my favorite EDC replacing my previous favorite which was a spyderco. Nothing beats how fast and easy it is to deploy and how compact it is. It's also really well built IMO and has just the right size blade for a variety of tasks. Also I use the ball bearing glass breaker to easily pop open the bottom plate of the mag on my NY compliant AR15. Love this little knife.

Let's face it, it's the cool factor first. Then to add to a collection, ease of deployment and of course the glass breaker. We can justify purchasing this toy. I can rationalize the style you have is a apple peeler. There are other style blades that are more pokey for self defense.

I’m amazed too. I have a 04/22 build date ultratech and it is MISERABLE to try and open and close. I about shit when I saw him actuate it with his pointer finger. Mine is a bear even with your thumb and there’s no way you’re going to work it with your pointer finger. And I have fairly strong hands. I want to send it back to see if they can do something about it but I don’t feel like being without it for a month or more. It’s ridiculous
