The CGI is bad but the action scenes are fun to watch. New York is obviously better but I still enjoy this movie.

Amazing review. Thank you. I love deep dives into films like this. I see this film as a struggle of man fighting against his own nature. Manny knows what he is, and it's not an "animal." An animal does what it does for survival without any self-awareness of how it could affect others. Manny does what he does for survival knowing that he is impacting others in a negative way, but does it anyway. The film questions if "humanity" is worse than being an animal. Lady Anne: No beast so fierce but knows some touch of pity. Richard: But I know none, and therefore am no beast. So in essence, Manny isn't an animal or a beast. He worse: . The reason why Manny feels that he is "free," at the end is that he finally realised what he is. Not an animal, nor a beast, but...Human, and as a human he had choices but ignored them for his self-preservation. And in his last act as a human he saves Buck and Sara. The film is, to me, a reminder that I am human, I know harm, and I have a choice.

Actually, I wouldn’t say Manny was a psychopath. Who knows what he did to get put in prison. But his behavior would be that of most men hardened by prison after that.

LA is a worthy sequel. Not great as New York but a fun ride. There are a lot of worse sequels, prequels, remakes and "reboots".

Good review. One of my all time favorite movies. Best scene is the low camera shot of the front of train right before the old man engineer gets it moving. The deep bass in this scene gives the train an evil presence.

Just to put it out there and this all is completely true and you can do your research and see yourself. Robert Van Buskirk with the help of a Judge named Randy Pool and other Sheriff's and Judge's and people in the DA's office in Rutherford County and McDowell county helped traffic sell and fly in drug's through the RC Airport in Rutherford County. Robert Van Buskirk was also killed or died at a house owned by Judge Pool by what he said falling down a flight of stairs no but just a few steps in front of him. One autopsy said blunt force trauma though. All this came to light in Judge Pools giant scandal a couple years ago that he somehow walked away from. Roberts ex wife or maybe it was his widow whichever received a huge sum of money from his illegal activites and such he had piled up and she also has a huge connection to the WOFF in Rutherford County and I'm sure still very concerned with everything coming out in the public. Trust me nothing is ever what it seems in a small town not even a good ol' Christian man with a ministry because like they say the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And this small town world didn't know the person Robert and the Judge and all the other officials were until he killed Robert sorry i mean he fell down some stairs in front of him at his own house where they were meeting at with an associate of theirs that had Mafia ties and then widely known after the Judge Pool scandal. Unless you just knew before because you were in on it or forced to do what you were told or you got thrown in prison or you all of a sudden got found dead from an overdose. Look it up. You'll see.

As awesome as Manny and Ranken are, neither are my favorite characters. Here is my list of my favorite characters 1. Buck 2. Barstow 3. Sara 4. Dave Prince 5. Manny 6. Ranken. The reason I think Buck is the best character is his development. He starts by giving into his inhibitions, and he grows beyond that. He tried to force himself on Sara when he met her. At the end, Buck defends Sara from Manny, and he tried to protect and comfort her when they both think their death is imminent. Now, Buck is probably going back to prison, but when he gets out, I think he has a good life ahead of him. It may be a tough life, but it will be a life that is built off of respect of other people. In regards to Barstow, I think he is a good example of what Buck could become. Barstow’s ultimate motive is the sanctity of human life. While his actions against MacDonald can also be seen as trying to save his own reputation, I think its moreso his disgust at MacDonald to throw away even a potential human life. Barstow gets more and more desperate as his options wear out. He doesn’t care who a person is; he doesn’t want anyone to die. Sara is a humanizing factor for both Manny and Buck. Through her, they see where they have faltered in ways they can stop. Although, Manny throws his chance away and gives it to Buck and Sara, but he knows Ranken won’t learn what he has learned. Dave Prince is a great multifaceted character. We get to see him deal with the stress of the situation in a different way from MacDonald and Barstow. His first scene, he is looking at a porno mag, but his concerns go right to his family if everything goes as bad as possible. Yet, he does just as much thinking on the fly as Barstow, and his input was absolutely necessary.

Speaking of Bongs and Ann Magnuson and music, if anyone reading this is interested more in her work, check out the band, Bongwater. She hooked up with Mark Kramer from Psychobilly and Shimmy Disc records fame and they made a bunch of albums. All the tracks have her singing and reciting spoken word (over music) in different characters. They do lots of covers, including the Monkees Porpoise Song and Johnny Cash There You Go, so they cover all sorts of genres and pop cultural references. Great stuff!

“One little boy one little man funny how time flies” totally seals the deal on this theory for me. He’s envisioning himself as younger and at the end of the music video it shows who the narrator of this story truly is. Makes a ton of sense considering how both members are interested in psychology too.

Think for a moment about the movie Escape from LA. as a stand alone movie and forget Escape from NY for a moment .. (I've never seen the first one tbh).. It does not deserve such a bad review overall.. I love this movie .. very underrated. As long as you don't take it all too seriously of course... it's an entertaining film and very honest... It's in my top 30... And I have watched 100s / 1000’s of movies

I was a little kid home alone with cable. This movie is a distinct memory and I always hunt it down every few years to watch it again. It was on a lot back in the olden days of the late 1980s. I know as an adult it was never massively popular but I'm surprised that people point it out as his worst movie and John Cryer jokingly apologizes for it. It's a good 80s movie. "Dog food mainly."

Ya, I preferred escape from LA better than New York. It felt more entertaining, more over the top. The story is very similar to New York, to the point where this feels not a sequel, but the final draft of the original. Yeah, the CG and sets look dated and fake, but so did New York.- and ya know with that said, maybe just maybe John carpenter was just trying to make a parody of the first film

Runaway Train has been one of my favorite movies since I was 16 years old in (1996). In fact, I had my mom rent the movie so many times that the guy at the video rental store one day just sold her the movie for only $3.00. I still have the old worn-out VHS tape packed away. In my opinion Runaway Train and Midnight Cowboy are Jon Voights greatest performances.

escape from LA still makes no sense to me, escape from NY was iconic, and by the time of the sequel Carpenter was a legend, he could have easily got the funding needed to make a worthy sequel, yet he makes this joke of a movie, and i think joke is the best way to describe it, its not bad like they made mistakes, its bad like they went out of their way to make it stupid, i mean basketball?? its like they went out and made a movie just for people to make youtube videos making fun of it, like i said it makes no sense. what also makes no sense is why russell, who was huge, would agree to be in this.
