The Mind Robbers actually has a sequel episode, with Six, Jamie and Zoe, “The Legend of the Cybermen” which is also a whole lot of fun. The whole thing is super imaginative and meta, with several gags you could only get away with in Audio.

I get redesigning things in a completely missing or mostly missing story (though I'd still prefer it being very accurate), but redesigning most of the characters and locations in a story, where half of the episodes exist seems like a very strange decision to me.

I have question,I’m sure you’ve been asked this once or twice, but I was curious about how you’ll go about reviewing 8 and War,assuming that was even on your mind. I’m not gonna assume you have a large range of Big Finish on hand, but I’m just thinking it would be a little unfair to both Doctors if they were just latched on to the end of 7s review,or just put together in a 12 minute video, only covering their on screen appearances

I firmly agree that the animations should be consistent with any surviving episodes. This is why one could find the animation of The Abominable Snowmen to be confusing, with many of the character designs being altered significantly. Also, fun fact: When they did the initial DVD release for The Underwater Menace, the people working on it offered to do a high quality recon for no extra cost, but the BBC turned this down for some reason.

Barry Letts era has more of a science focus than any Who after it.... :( It's not that the Doctor was less of a scientist after Pertwee, it was after Letts. Somewhere in the transfer they lost track of the fact that the Doctor is an explorer obsessed with scientific investigation, he began to become more of a travelling superhero instead. I love the Leela era, and her wide-eyed uneducated character resulted in things getting a little more 'sciency' for a while, as the Doctor explains everything as they go. But I really miss the little science lessons from early Who, geology, biology.... Pertwee rewiring a radio receiver into a transmitter... Total machine creatures... :) Machine + creature = Cyborg Daleks and Cybermen have brain alterations which remove 'problematic' emotions, making them machine creatures, creatures that think like machines.... 'Another' race of 'robots'... wasn't a great word combo, no... :D Hopefully things go full circle on Talons of Weng Chiang! The Victorian racism shown was realistic, educational and not at all promoting the behavior. We should bring back actors playing characters of other races, complete with accent and optional make-up. We should be able to have an Asian actor play Sherlock Holmes without wowsers claiming that the character has been 'made Asian' A black, Hispanic or white Ghengis Khan is fine as long as they're not playing the role with an anachronistic hip modern accent. It would progress things and help people get over feeling outraged on behalf of others, if we moved on and let actors be actors. It's an actor's job to portray people unlike themselves.... 21st century, time to get over it.... Invisible Enemy is a classic, the early Leela era is strong! I was obsessed with building my own K9 as a kid, even if his head does explode when his wheels touch water. I haven't seen the latest versions of Shada with animation! Something to track down.....

Really? With the budgets these Dr. Who animations have had (IOW, they actually HAD budgets), why do they all look like CRAP? I look at these, comparing them to "Memories of Phantasm" ( kzitem.info/news/bejne/l2ytuaGQeouVl34 ) and I just have to wonder how so-called "professional" animated recreations can look like shit when compared to a **fan production** based off the Touhou Project video games?

I watched from the start. For almost 2 hours I watched... and waited. This video is excellent and I found myself agreeing broadly with each story's review, but I knew it wouldn't last - at least not for me. Eventually it would arrive, the story I remember from my youth. The one I remember the best because I enjoyed it so much. So I watched this video and I waited for the inevitable - a mercilessly brutal and blasphemous review of The Horns of Nimon except... no! Wait a minute! Whats this?!? Whatever your thoughts on this era, Colin was never given the opportunity to really shine in the role. This has been redeemed in recent years with the Big Finish audio releases, but as a whole, various factors stacked up against Colin during his tenure, which was a real shame.

Shada would have been a triumphant conclusion to the best that Doctor Who had offered before JNT ruined it all overnight. I really don't understand why Dudley was fired. Even the cheapest serials feel rich because of his incredibly skillful & diverse scores. Whereas the synthesizer crap all feels so dated, cheap, over-used, overbearing, annoyingly persistent in the mix due to the lack of performance dynamics, & of its time. I also believe killing what made Tom so addictive to watch, the humour, was a daft idea from a man who had a stick up his arse. Everyone knows JNT wanted to be Doctor Who. But because he sucked at everything, he made the Doctor JNT by slapping ugly clothes on him, with tasteless colours & Question Marks that are about as subtle as his Hawaiian shirts collection. Then comes killing off K9 in a dumbfounded way which contradicts K9's intelligence - a fan favourite because he didn't want friendly banter on the show anymore or the responsibility of writing for him. The stories suddenly became convoluted, dull, or melodramatic with far too much emphasis on trying to be different. And seeing that JNT was producer now, he wanted Adric, Tegan & Nissa who about as enjoyable as Colin Bakers regeneration sequence. Dr Who had it's hey-day and should have stopped after shada imho. Because it just became so cheap in every possible aspect including scripts with rare 'once in a season' exceptions.

Sorry about all the weird comments about Talons it’s weird how people can’t accept that even good art can have harmful elements to them to the point getting personally offended at the idea and unnecessarily needing to spin it in a way where they’re somehow superior for thinking otherwise or that there’s actually people out there actively saying you’re a bad person for enjoying them and campaigning for these episodes to be like taken away or something I unno what they’re talking about with that I can’t say I’ve ever seen anything remotely resembling that scenario being like actually real, people just like to fight for fightings sake I guess

I absolutely loved the Celestial Toymaker animation. This is from someone who thought Web of Fear animation was an absolute embarassment. It looked gorgeous, most animations looked fine, servicable. But not like an incredible work within itself like Toymaker, which brought it from the worst of the 1st Doctor to 17/29 (which is obviously not a top spot, but much higher then I would expect it to be if the actual episodes survive, as the only remaining one was no where near as interesting as the animation. It truly brought life to this story, and I hope they are the go to studio for Dr. Who animations from now on, I am not a fan of the Wheel in Space, but I think they would be great for that story, and the Smugglers (and ideally the Dalek's Master Plan, but fair enough if a story of that size would be not seen as viable).

I felt like the animation errors in The Underwater Menace were just disappointing to me. I felt something was lost in the animated remakes of Episodes 2 & 3, and I really dislike the new character designs. If you only have one surviving episode, I’m more lenient with changes. That’s why the changes made to The Abominable Snowmen don’t bother me too badly. But when half the material exists, you should probably keep the original designs to an extent.

Crusade seems to be one of those stories that might be animated last, if it ever is. I remember some article with Charles Norton mentioning that some of the historical episodes like Marco Polo, The Crusade and The Massacre were less likely to be animated because of things like the number of characters/extras and clothing changes. Though I’m pretty sure that article was made around the release of The Macra Terror, so maybe the situation has changed since then. I wonder if The Collection set of Season 2 may also play a part in this, since the animation teams may feel less inclined to animate the story if it’s already been released with reconstructions included on the Season 2 Blu Ray set.

Excellent review. Been waiting for a video on the 2. The underwater menace will always hold a special feeling as it was the comeback release after what I was also sure would be a lengthy gap. However that went a bit too far on the animation front with changes and pats lines being given to others is really careless. Nonetheless happy to have a very good recon of it, much more enjoyable. Toymaker, I absolutely loved. The changes worked for me and bettered my enjoyment of it. Don't want to see 3d for any other story though as like you've said it probably wouldn't work as well for anything else. Delighted the range is back. Think smugglers is likely to be next although I really want the space pirates, would vastly benefit from visuals. Look forward to the next video, all the best!

Bidmead and Saward's overseen scripts are overflowing with logical inconsistencies, but the one that takes the cake for me is god-tier engineer Omega, who harnessed a black hole and has zero relation to planet Earth, deciding that some old Dutch crypt pipes were the only source of power in the universe to enact his Arc Of Infinity plan. May as well get a bird skeleton and a zombified street kid to do the grunt work, yeah? Also, how is there no scene where Tegan says "Why'd you jerks leave without me?!?" Being a contrarian, I wanted to enjoy the Davison era, but it feels like every idea that JNT had was kinda terrible. Currently binging the whole classic series for the first time, and this is the first time it feels like a slog.
