After strike three, Davey Lopes had a reaction that seems like “That pitch was outs … um … never mind, I’m good.”

17 future MLB Hall of fame members in this one, with another four that should be in. Parker, Garvey, Lynn and Cecil Cooper.

outside of everybody now throwing 98+ players haven't really become that much bigger, faster or better in the skills dept in MLB. Not like the NHL where now every player is 6-3, 220 and the game looks like it's played by robots

Ryan threw the "nastiest cheese". He threw a pitch 100.9 mph clocked it when it was 10 feet from the plate in the 9th inning of a game. Today's radar guns determine 10 feet out of the hand which would add 6-8 mph. When he was 42, he was clocked at 98.

Way overrated. Barely a .500 record. No Cy Young. No MVP. One ring in which he contributed very little. Strikeouts? So what.

I get what your saying but with that curve and so much control of game i can see managers unwilling to remove him I saw him i Detroit one time face 7 batters No hits 4 walks 3 strikeouts one run had to have thrown 30 pitches Yes 298 losses ! Barely 20 more wins Remarkable athletic condition and not involved in club shootings Drunk driving or Marital discords I didn’t mind my children being inspired to emulate him

He always had the great curve (when it was on). He developed a change-up later on and his strikeout totals went back up.

What is an unsaturated fast ball? What a joke for announcers in 1979. Let me guess, Joe "meatball" Garagiola. Poor Tom Seaver.

Interesting that Tom Seaver is one of the announcers covering the All-Star Game. Seaver could have easily been on the team hinself. 16 wins that year, same number as Ryan.

Nolan Ryan.., MLB all-time walks leader with 2,795.., had his control been as sharp throughout his career, as it was to these two batters, he may have won 500 games.., when he was on, the man was pretty much un-hittable...
