Hi Brennan - Just came across your vid here. First great build, I actually own this bike now. Bought it off a guy in CA. I wanted to reach out to see if I could chat with you offline (if possible). I'm running into a problem with either with the coils and/or condensors failing. I'm on my third pair of condensors and about to jump into the coils. Also, I'm planning on swapping out to an electronic ignition in the next couple weeks. If you have any insight that would be super helpful. You did a great job on the bike bro. Amazing work.

Hi Jacin, it’s cool to see this thing is still alive and valued. This was my Dads bike since around 1987. It was sitting in his garage for nearly 20 years when I got it off him to resurrect from the dead. These bikes can be pretty frustrating to tune with the 4 carb set up and points and condenser systems. I had also considered an electronic ignition for it to simplify the tuning process. The 4 bank carbs can literally drive you nuts to try to tune to perfection. It would only help to have electronic ignition. You should start with valve timing, then get your ignition timing set, then get into tuning the carbs for your regions temps and exhaust/ intake setups. All of the Honda forums I read always suggested going to the stock air box setup which I was also considering when I was riding it. Sohc4.net has some good info to help. Thanks for the compliments.

@@brennanvintagemotorcycles1552 Thanks for the info Brennan. Completely agree! I just got the Pamco electronic ignition and was also having the issues with the condensors constantly going out (went through 3 sets since last summer). The tuning and carbs in general have been fine as I have been pretty consistent with maintaining there. Also about to swap out the coils as well. Its really cool to know the history of the bike and that it was with you and your family for a while. BTW... what did you use to keep the spokes so clean? Overall, its still running strong! Great job amigo. Cheers!

Jacin, I used mother’s polish on the spokes. Currently, I have no time for the building hobby, as I have just changed careers. I do do some custom/restoration paint work for a couple guys I know, but that’s it. In a year or so I plan to get another bike and get a bit more into the building, restoration and collection of these vintage bikes.

Also be sure the aluminum is clean, scuffed with a red scotch brite or walnut blasted and use an etch primer before your top coat for adhesion

Alex, I had the bodies completely tore down during painting, The tops and bowls were polished and set aside when I coated the bodies. I just carefully taped off all of the gasket surfaces and orifices.

Hey Chris thanks for doing the video 👍🏻 I’m just in the process of stripping down and rebuilding my carbs of my 78 xs 750, like the idea of painting the carb body’s but what did you do to protect the aluminium of the top hat and fuel bowl?
