Mr. Player was my role model growing up. I am about Gary Player's age and size and have played the game about as long but not as well :) I agree with him 100%+. Golf today is more of a gladiator sport attraction. Literally appealing to that lower form of the human condition seeing spectacles of catastrophe as entertainment. In the Roman coliseums people would face wild animals or gladiators and of course might be able to run away for a bit but in the end they were mercilessly killed. That's what Player is alluding to - a few inches translates to many yards. It's nonsense. What happened to "risk/reward". Next we'll be seeing Bengal Tigers chained to trees on the course as a hazard. Why not have that as such a spectacle. "Play the ball as it lies (as the tiger lies) or take a penalty shot and free drop." Wouldn't that be quite a spectacle. The best courses for me, after 65 years of playing are still the Donald Ross designed courses. They make sense - unlike the nonsense of courses today. I don't play these "stadium" (aka colliseum) golf courses. They are for the mentally ill.

Just played Chambers yesterday from sand/green combo tee (6300) and hit a lot of greens. I also had 39 putts (which is terrible for me). Gary is right about the greens, the ball almost NEVER went where I thought it was going to, we all had the same issue so it wasn’t just me. The fairways are mostly wide open with TIGHT approaches. I’m a 15.5HCP and I shot 87. The facilities and the course were in tip-top shape and it was well worth the $205, I highly recommend.

Gary does not care about water resources when he is being paid to design courses in the desert. He takes anyone's money 🤨

I agree with him...we walked along the practice rounds with several of the pros & to hear them bad mouth Chambers Bay was an eye opener...we live in the neighborhood and this course is not for the average amateur. Extremely discouraging and at least they have redone the greens...not a course for watching a tournament with family either...danger Will Robinson, Danger...

This fool is talking like the leaders were +20. When Spieth won in 2015 he was -5 and eight guys finished the week underpar, so it played very fair especially at a US Open. Hell in 2018 Koepka won the US Open at +1 and in 2020 Bryson was the only guy underpar at Winged Foot. Gary we get you do 25 hours of exercise a day and I am glad you have taken ownership of your health at your age but we don't need to hear it incessantly

I've played chambers in 2018, 2022, and 2023. All three times it was super fun and very fair, i really enjoyed having to get creative around the greens by playing the side and back slopes. I'm a 5.7 handicap so its not like I'm a scratch or a + handicap. All three times I played from about 6900 yards and shot 78, 83, 81 respectively. Gary ego maniac Player as usually trying to remain relevant at his old age. and Gary, it rains in the PNW 10 months out of the year, other than like July and August the course doesn't use sprinkler water, mother nature does the work because it rains six days a week

it is a stupid course by design, it is a rip-off of links golf in a very hot place. They do not go together and never will. Love Gary he never has a rant to get attention, he is a Legend telling the truth. The design is tipped off by some american luxury styling it in such a way it is unplayable. No wonder most of the Pro's were happy to pack up and go home. About 70% of the players slated the course.

Wasn't friendly to me when I once asked him for his autograph was really nasty in fact.

Chambers Bay separated the Willy’s from the Billy’s, its about the challenge Gary a challenging difference from other US Open courses, a great test of golf for any golfer that loves to test his skills. I wonder how Ben Hogan would “tame” this golf course. I truly hope the US Open returns to Chambers Bay. Look past the train tracks Mr Player I don’t see any shortage on water?

11 handicapper and shot 88 and had a wonderful time... beautiful course and incredible experience. Pretty easy to see that Gary has a personal dislike for Robert Trent Jones II who is the course architect, perhaps Gary should have mentioned a disclaimer -- it shows as Gary's rant tends toward emotion rather than facts -- Gary is trying to heap all of golf's problems on this one course. 12 holes is what Gary wants -- what a joke. Was a fun US Open in 2015 and hope it can host another major. A course that takes too much water? Tacoma averages 39" of rain each year. Gary, in this video you look like a grumpy old man.

It rains 150 days and 40 inches a year in Seattle. I wouldn’t be overly concerned about watering the course although I was at that tournament and it was hot and dry that week. I would agree that it was a terrible venue.

It’s true! The golf balls of today shouldn’t be made to travel that far for the pros when they have driver heads the size of shoe boxes. Golf isn’t a hard sport, for coordinated athletes, so why not take some distance off the ball and make them use more skill. It’s hilarious to see Bryson Dechambeau strut around swinging a shoe box pretending like it’s all him when in reality if he were swinging a persimmon head he would be at least 40 yards shorter and wouldn’t have near the ball striking consistency that the oversized drivers of today afford him. Of course the pros are talented but the fans need to demand to see more skill instead of a boring long drive contest.

Just seeing this today, but sounds like a lot of whining. Everyone plays the same course super hard or not. Best of the best wins, doesn't matter if the course has windmills, a clowns mouth, an absurd amount of bunkering or super fast greens.
