I think the worst part about this that just hits me in the gut is the fact that until his body was just bones and no skin his eyes stayed there and it kind of made me think that he was still seeing through them

The real resilience on display here was that damn camera being able to last for decades if not centuries on end without being recharged.

Its sad to think that nobody was there for him when he was about to die, he just saw all his fellow comrades being shot dead and being bombed, then he dies, only to be in the same place for years on end. Just slowly rotting away with animals and bugs eating his corpse away, also baring in mind that his family might not have known about his death

I understand why many people find the story overwhelmingly beautiful. It’s a comforting thought for sure as we are faced with the daily, lifelong, chronic, terminal threat of nuclear annihilation. HOWEVER, I strongly urge against this impulse, this comforting impulse to find the silver lining of a nuclear, near-extinction event that ends organizing human life as we know it. There is nothing redeeming about it, and I know that’s unsatisfying at a narrative level, but that’s the reality we must confront, and ANY attempt to find a silver lining otherwise is misguided and misplaced. It’s a rationalization aimed to help our brains fathom the unfathomable. But it’s a complete lie. Life as a post-apocalyptic caveman is a miserable life. All life, for hundreds if not thousands of years, would be drenched in suffering. And any “resilience” of the human race would be little if anything to celebrate. It’s too late by then. We CANNOT accept that fate, let alone romanticize it. We must embrace how unimaginably horrific it is, and do everything to prevent it. That essentially sums up my thoughts. The very cute film with a very endearing art style and cute caveman boy is a heartwarming tale layered over a VERY anti-humanist premise. Its blending of sorrow and hope is only as profound as it is twisted.

We are but a small, insignificant speck in this world. Our lives come and go. We live, laugh, love and cry and it is all like a puff of smoke in the wind, we are here and then we are not; but the world, and life, shall continue on. As though we never existed at all.

Breathing in the dark, lying on its side The ruins of the day painted with a scar And the more I straighten out, the less it wants to try The feelings start to rot, one wink at a time Oh-oh, forgiving who you are, for what you stand to gain Just know that if you hide, it doesn't go away When you get out of bed, don't end up stranded Horrified with each stone on the stage, my little dark age Picking through the cards, knowing what's nearby The carvings on the face say they find it hard And the engine's failed again, all limits of disguise The humor's not the same, coming from denial Oh-oh, I grieve in stereo, the stereo sounds strange I know that if you hide, it doesn't go away If you get out of bed and find me standing all alone Open-eyed, burn the page, my little dark age I grieve in stereo, the stereo sounds strange You know that if it hides, it doesn't go away If I get out of bed, you'll see me standing all alone Horrified on the stage, my little dark age Giddy with delight, seeing what's to come The image of the dead, dead ends in my mind Policemen swear to God, love seeping from their guns I know my friends and I would probably turn and run If you get out of bed, come find us heading for the bridge Bring a stone, all the rage, my little dark age I grieve in stereo, the stereo sounds strange I know that if you hide, it doesn't go away If you get out of bed and find me standing all alone Open-eyed, burn the page, my little dark age All alone, open-eyed, burn the page, my little dark age literally fits this imao
