Thanks for a great one coach. Question if you have time. Would you say wrist snap or finger snap is more important. I noticed that your practice snaps didn't involve the wrist but just snapping off the fingers. Thank you.

Don't compare it to baseball pitch, Softball has shorter distance from catcher to pitcher, So it is not move as much as baseball curveball pitch, Even though if we take longer distance it Will not move as much as baseball pitch. But yes, it is have movement, Edit : the pitch on the video almost has no movement

I'm looking at this and wondering if it would be better to start with your drive foot in front instead of behind? For the simple fact that you don't start a pitch from this position. I would think that it would be better with it in front, then you'd get a really good drive from a similar yet deeper drive position. I'm not challenging you at all, it's a genuine question that I'm hoping to obtain an answer to. Great content, I've seen several that you've posted on here.

I have found with young pitchers that drag issues often come from over-striding.
@competitiveedgesoftball3373

So for me every time I see a bad drag it’s from the knee rotating out and the foot turning. They get lazy and don’t keep engaged that interior thigh muscle and the knee wants to turn and then you end up with a bowling drag on the side of the foot.

My daughter's coach doesn't teach her to throw a screwball because she's lefty, but I was wondering if it would be possible for a lefty to throw a backdoor screwball to right handers, I've never seen a lefty throw that pitch. I've seen plenty of right handers throw back door curves to right handed batters and it usually tends to freeze them pretty good, it's effective.

My daughter has longer arms in proportion to her shorter height. Your method provides an accurate alignment of where the barrel sweet spot should actually meet at ball contact. This makes much more sense to be able to reach the outside strikezone but short enough to stay in control of inside strikes. Yiur 💯 correct! Thanks. 😊

Absolutely correct it’s the pressure of the fingers with the movement of the body and hand that get the ball to move the spin only assists.

Really? I see barely 4" of movement. I always threw a 2 knuckle curve, it was a slower pitch but I get a solid 8-10" of sideways break. 4" of movement is just a bad fastball asking to get barreled up.

Not a joke…maybe for a beginner/intermediate pitcher but it is a great drill to work on weight transfer and leaning. Allows the pitcher to really feel what having a strong balanced foundation feels like and if they are wobbly in their foundation they will be unlikely to progress.

@@competitiveedgesoftball3373 Along with the 10,000 other drills out there (bucket drills, leg kicks, launch plates, etc). Softball is so diluted with "new" ideas and gimmicks. No wonder new parents and players have no clue which way is up.

@@davidc2184 I completely agree which is the same with privates unfortunately that’s the nature of the beast. In my county there are probably 100 different pitching instructors if not more. Each instructor is going to teach differently and have similar drills with new names. I think it’s important to have content available for parents and girls that do not have access to coaches. These videos are also for my clients to reference if I send the drill home for homework. Or if a parent reaches out and says their daughter is struggling and doesn’t know why but in the video they send me their leaning too much this is an easy way to send them something to help without saying hey come to me and I’ll fix it. This sport in general has become watered down but it isn’t going anywhere neither are the parents searching for drills to help their daughters. But again nature of youth sports these days.

Your actually not supposed to drag your foot on the ground when pitching because your supposed to explode off the mound so your foot should be leaping in the air instead of dragging on the ground. Sorry if this sounds rude I didn’t watch the video I just saw it so she could’ve said it in the video
@competitiveedgesoftball3373
2 жыл бұрын
In all honesty the rule only changed about six weeks ago to two months ago that leaping is legal in recreational play and in youth sports leaping has been illegal for pitchers all the way up until January 1. Not rude at all we just want to teach our pictures to pitch legally and up until January 1 that required them to keep their plant foot in contact with the dirt until the release of the ball. And at a younger age dragging is better than leaping because you want them to maintain good mechanics and the drag is just as important as the explosion in a pitch and if they don’t have a good drag because all they’re working on is explosion they won’t have a good pitch. It’s all about balance as it is in life. A bad drag with good explosion will result in problems with the delivery and finish. They still need to learn to drag.

maybe watch the video? then what you will see is a perfect drag from coach Jess... showing a perfect drag while focusing on the purpose of the video; to improve accuracy... I was watching an ncaa game just last month and a new pitcher was getting called for crow hopping... a great young pitcher who had the ability to make the adjustment in real time on the mound; this is the coach and channel for that kind of athlete.

It forces pitchers to use their legs more and elongate their arms. Improvement in those areas help to increase velocity. Pitchers can typically expect to add 1mph to their ball for every 5 feet of increased distance in long toss.
