I have a poster & T-shirt of that picture of Mike holding Cus & smiling like the happiest father & son that ever existed ❤ My favorite picture of anyone that isn't my own actual family 💯 Such a beautiful story behind those two 🐐 legends ❤

😲 Only people that ever had a mentor, trainer, coach that helped you when you were young and needed help along the way would truly understand how Mike Tyson feels.

Cus seen something in Tyson that even Mike Tyson himself didn’t know was there. Years of knowledge and wisdom are not enough to recognize when someone has that special “something” to them. But Cus seen it and knew it was there. He nurtured Mike and taught him the knowledge required; but the legend and greatness were already there within Mike. Cus D’Amato had seen many different fighters of varying ages and skill levels, but knew that age 13, that Mike was the best. If not for Cus, Mike Tyson would have probably spent his entire life in and out of prison. Which all begs the question…. How many Mike Tysons are out there and their greatness if never recognized??!

'How did he know?'... Wow, what a moment of pure emotion. Cus was the ONLY person who believed in him... I've seen that before. I've been lucky and honoured to have mentored a few people in my time. Sometimes that tiny piece of faith can be so impactful to a young person, you don't even realise it.

Imagine the impact of someone like that. They're a legend in their craft. A true professional that comes up to you in your youth and tells you you're going to be the best there is. He invites you into his home, shows you compassion, and gives you the knowledge and tools to be someone you never dreamed you could be.

I rarely cry but when mike cries I break down. That pain, that loss, that sad whisper like a boy whos hiding, its too much. Its me. Its all men. Its a collective hurt being shown and it breaks me every time. Cus was DAD in all respects and seeing a walking nuke cry speaking on him so lovingly and focused is rattling. It hits your soul man

I don't know that Cus equated emotion with weakness, rather, his brand of the warrior ethic was to harness emotional energy into focus and power. One of my favorite quotes of his sort of underscores that point, "[t]he hero and the coward both feel the same thing, but the hero uses his fear, projects it onto his opponent, while the coward runs. It’s the same thing, fear, but it’s what you do with it that matters." Part of Mike's reaction now comes from gratitude, but I also think there's a lot of regret wrapped into it. When Don King got his claws into Mike his life took a turn for the worse, the warrior spirit that Cus instilled in him was, for a time, milked dry and made brittle, the fear exploded like an uncontrolled fire, and Mike made a lot of serious and bad mistakes trying to find his way back from the abyss. It's taken him decades to find his way back.

He loved and feared him not because he was truly afraid of him. I believe it's the similar type of love one would have for their dad or God. A respectful fear. Not saying that Cus can be compared to God. No not at all but just that Mikes love and respect for Cus was similar. I believe Cus was more like a Father to Mike than anything and thats why Mike holds him in such high regard till this day.

Look at how much Tyson appreciates cus "i wish i could say he was just this white man but thats not how it goes" yet you get a idiot like Kapernick who portrayed the family who saved him as racist and terrible people. If it wasn't for them he would be flipping hamburgers right now. No foster home would pay thousands of dollars for football and baseball equipment and league fees and tournament fees showcase fees, you name it ! It would never happen. Those white people should of left him in foster care he would be no body today if they did yet all he does is bash them and call them racist, such a clown

Why do you think these cats these days shoot themselves and hang themselves like it's nothing? I've said it plenty times you think getting shot or burned or punched is painful? Or breaking a bone is? I promise you there's a reason ppl don't like to go to the hole they call it solitaire confinement for a reason in jail or prison.... Just like the game solitaire or luck 7s (roulette) your odds of winning are near impossible you keep playing the game over and over expecting a different result but get the same outcome and when you win you think your lucky but what goes around must come around it's called interest dumbazzes unless you KNOW THE GAME. The house always wins if you win it's cuz it let you....once your in the whole you start to lose your mind and go insane it's torture. Most kill themselves or completely go insane and never recover and have to be medicated for the rest of there lives... Why you think there so scared and like to act but never do anything ? Cuz they deep down frauds and are scared to death there is no worse pain than psychological and mental abuse it will drop you to your knees having you begging for mercy
