I've made my own version Dual Gris System in Lua an it was just super simple! Thanks a lot!

Quick question, what is your reason to use C# in Godot instead of GDScript?

i used to manual draw my maps and it takes tons of time, this tile system might be able to change it even though i have to write codes for it to work.

Great video! I am struggling to reproduce this in my own project. I copied your code from GitHub in Unity. For some reason the sprites don't show anything but the placeholder tiles. I get one or two of the actual display tiles but the rest don't change. I tried restarting the project a few times and it randomly worked after restarting unity a few times but on any other new project file I create I can't get it to work and restarting unity hasn't fixed it. Any ideas anyone?

does it solve cases with 3 types of terrain? for example, dirt dirt grass water? im currently fighting against it
I spent soo many hours creating 47 tiles for each terrain and finding ways to simplify it. This video just saved me a ton of time.

How did you handle the walls? Or are they not part of the tile map?

This is pretty cool. I've started off with gamemaker, but the logic here looks fairly easy to replicate. It does mean however, that when you're drawing your map you're just looking at a screen full of placeholders correct? Or does your Godot script let you design while in game mode?

You really do have a genius level of teaching translation. The ability to take your hard-earned knowledge, distill it to the important points, and explain those points clearly (like the amazing explanation + graphic at 2:31) is extremely rare. Thanks for all your contribution, and I hope you continue! Subbed.

I have no idea how much research you've done for this, but the result looks like genius level coding, and your video presentation is top notch too. Well done.

The forumula for the different tiles that are possible are n^4 where n is the number of different tiles, and with a smart atlas, you can do the math a bit easier for what tile to go where.

at first I thought you were gonna talk about quarter tiling, which is an oldie but goodie, cut the tile in quarters, and map each quarter separately, thereby reducing the number of tiles needing to be designed to only the symmetrical cases.

There's a cheap Unity asset called TileGen Pro that makes this infinitely easier. You just need to draw the 12 basic tiles (corners, inverse corners, edges and core) and you click a button and it creates a full tileset for you with every possible tile combination It basically bakes the process of the dual grid into the tile itself. It takes quadrants of each drawn tile and readjusts it into another tileset
