The niche zero steel thingy that u grind into can actually fit perfectly into a porta filter, so place the porta filter on top and flip it for less mess ;)

@@suddha1 It took probably 5 shots of horrible and 10 shots of not great before I got it settled. Now with lighter roast speciality coffee (Ethiopia, Yirgacheffe is my favourite region) I grind 17.5g, distribute carefully with a needle distributor, tamp quite lightly (3-4kg), and aim for a ratio of just over 2:1, so about 38g of espresso. Works well for me - I think the emphasis on 30lb of tamping pressure has gone now, with careful distribution to avoid channelling being more important. 😊

Hello! It happens the same to me. I’ve tried different pressure and amount of coffee. I cook my coffee medium heat and extraction lasts around 35-40 seconds. But I never get cream and I do not know what to do. I buy fresh Arabic beans and I grid with an old electric grinder that I borrow from my parents. But apparently the texture is fine. Any advice please?

I did enjoy the video thank you. Having had my machine for about two weeks now I am near the point to dialling in the timing and grind size. Initially I had trouble with my ceramic hob getting up to temperature within six minutes, so I have used the heat exchange plate which seems to solve the problem. All in all, I am most pleased and I’m getting some very tasty shots.

Hi. Well spotted - it sure is the Tias. I love it for brewing when I have friends round; it’s not had much use this past year 😢. The 9Barista is good for when it’s just me. I prefer light roasts, citrus and berries, so the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia is perhaps my favourite, but variety is also good. 😊

Hi. Thanks for your interest. The stove is an old lump of cast iron; it’s called an Aga. I’m still really happy with the 9Barista, after a few months. I use it most days. The one thing it isn’t made for is producing back-to-back shots. It takes several minutes to cool and for the pressure to drop, and a couple of minutes to clean and reload, then another 4-6 min to heat up again. Its strength is in producing slow coffee. Take your time, stop rushing, savour the waiting and then enjoy the shot. 😎

Did you thinked about Flair Espresso ? I have a commandante C40 with a signature pro and enjoy the full manual espresso since 1 or 2 years. It work pretty well. @@4sstylz There was such a long wait for the 9Barista I bought a Flair sig pro. It found it way to fussy and messy to clean up. I sold it on eBay (for about the same as I paid for it 😊). I also sold my Mazzer mini for a surprising amount, and bought the Niche Zero. I have a Helor 101, so I agree about the joys of hand-grinding. I also agree about re-setting for new coffee beans, and I do find decaf harder to get right.

@moose99moose
3 жыл бұрын
It’s easy, but you have to let it cool and the pressure drop a bit first, so not ideal for lots of back-to-back drinks. First, set it down in the sink to cool whilst you enjoy the coffee. Then, just run cold water into the top, and over the body. Remove the top part. I push out the portafilter with a fingertip and set it down in the sink. Press the pressure relief valve before unscrewing the bottom part. Quick rinse and you’re done.

Im having trouble with mine. I hvae got the total time on the stove within the 3 to 6 min range but extraction is always really fast, like under 15s. I have been grinding the recommended 18g using comondante c40. Recommend range for espresso is 10 to 15. I have tried even as fine as 8, with no effect. I tamp quite hard probably more than 5kg of force. Idk would tamping too hard cause it to extract too quickly? I going to try 20g @ 14, 6, and maybe even 18 and see if there is much difference, a little extreem but idk, I feel stuck.
@moose99moose
3 жыл бұрын
If the flow is too fast, there are only a few possible causes. 1. The grind is too fine - the commandante is a good grinder so try more fine in steps 2. The amount of coffee needs increasing - you’ve already suggested increasing which I think is good idea, especially if you prefer darker roasts. 3. Traditionally tamping was 30lb (about 13kg) - I’m tamping around 10kg I think. 4. Distribution - in a smaller portafilter, I think it is even more important to avoid channelling by ensuring even distribution. So I think my starting point on what you’ve mentioned would be careful distribution and tamping more firmly, then adjusting dose and grind to see. It’s a lot of experimenting, but I think worth it when you get there. Took me quite a few goes till I was fairly happy. I’d love to hear how it goes 😊

@@moose99moose How do know when to stop the extraction? How is it stopped?
@moose99moose
3 жыл бұрын
@@BillyBobpeeps Hi. You can tell (with practice) when the extraction is complete: you want to stop it just before the crema turns pale, which will be at about 30-35 seconds if you have the grind and tamping right. The only way to stop extraction is to pour into your cup. The extraction will continue until the temperature and pressure drop, but you will have captured the part you are going to drink.
@lindag3860

If your grind is too fine, the water will have to force itself through any little crack in your espresso puck, creating a channel, rushing through the coffee somewhere in the middle, and leaving many of your grounds somewhat dry. Next time you can break apart the puck afterwards and see if the water had been evenly distributed or not. Hope this helps :)

becausewin I saw one with extraction came fast and boiling. He then conclude that it's the electric stove heat up power no enough as he place the given plate. It should be fine without the plate, he try second time with gas stove solve the problem. He explain if you took too long to build up the pressure the powder will gets "burn" dry(and what Linda G mention happen). So enough heat source shorten the heat up time is important
