None other than Allen Toussaint backing up Earl Palmer for an educational video? Priceless!

OK...that would be interesting...who's the most recorded drummer? Bernard Purdie and Vinnie Coliuta would be certainly in that conversation...

Purdie, Blaine, Gordon, Palmer, Gadd, Porcaro, JR Robinson…I never got that Vinnie was THAT widely recorded, maybe I’m overlooking it?

If I get to be 1/10th as good as Earl Palmer, I will have over achieved! Such amazing touch and playing within the song.

This is fantastic. It really breaks down what Earl did to create those songs, those beats. What a master. Still my favorite drummer of all time. Earl was, and always will be, the MAN!

Thank you for sharing this video, it's excellent. EP shares his knowledge so freely, he seems very down earth after all he has achieved. I remember them releasing 3 NO drum videos around same time, Earl, Herlin Riley & Johnny Vidacovich.

It seems to me New Orleans drummers are heavily influenced by the marching drums in a parade band.

First time I became aware of his playing was on ' Release of an oath ' by the Electric Prunes..he had accented fills .space. great beats . I learnt so much about tasteful drumming and time , Most of all space. Wonderful drummer. Great bass playing too and how to play with the bass.

So glad to stumble on this. I’m a huge Earl Palmer fan. Very interesting to discover his stickings for those shuffles. It’s a shame they didn’t provide a more appropriate drumkit.
