Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?

I was 12 when Richard Beckinsale died, and it probably shocked and saddened me more than any other famous death. I was already an avid fan of Porridge and Rising Damp back in the days when families watched sitcoms together. They're still my two favourite sitcoms, and I can watch them endlessly. They're both brilliant comedies for many reasons, but the relaxed magic that Richard sprinkled on both is as big a reason as any for never tiring of watching them. As the great Leonard Rossiter said, he had a unique talent. He'll always be sadly missed, but it must be such a consolation for his family - and for all of us, that he left so much treasure to remember him by.

I remember seeing a clip of Ronnie Barker getting the BAFTA in 1979 only a few days after Richard had died and it was clear just how devastated Ronnie was.

My dad was an extra on porridge and i remember him saying in the late 70s he died and was going to play football with him but he had a heart attack...saying how shocked he was as he was young and quite fit...i just watched Rising Damp today and thought how perfect he was for the show.

He would have gone on to many great things and he would have been so proud of Kate.

@ 5-13..thought I recognised the wonderful voice of Tony Christie singing ''Love and Rainy Weather'', the theme tune to The Lovers. Cannot seem to find any chart placing for it unless it was an album track.

I wanna know if he knows how to use guns, does he take gun and weapon training before? Hopefully I'm wrong. Kate Beckinsale knows how to use guns when she plays Selene in Underworld movies. And what if he was an action star.
