A song for the heartbreak that leaves a crack right through you. But knowing this too is part of love.

You have no idea how many times I listened to this particular KZitem video of this SVE song about 11 years ago when I was at my absolute lowest. Thank you. I’m doing a lot better now.

To see a BLACK GIRL sing this. I've never felt more seen and loved and beautiful and appreciated in my life. I would cry if I ever hugged her, laughing and nuzzling each other's fluffy curly hair 😍😂😰🔥😍💕💅🏽

The first time I heard this was through the barely-audible sound system at a noisy bar and mistook it for a beautiful female cover version of Led Zeppelin's "The Rain Song". It took me forever to finally find it and add it to my music collection.

The love of my life died in my arms five years before this came out and when I heard this for the first time, and what she went through, I could barely see for crying so hard. A brave artist and this song is achingly, achingly beautiful and indescribable. "Are You Here?" indeed. And yes, they are. You will survive, but art like this sure helps.

Perhaps this is my personal interpretation of this beautiful song, but it makes me think of how when you're in an abusive relationship, you think that's "how it is". You often find ways to justify the violence, the control, but eventually if you find the strength you can let go, and that makes you love more, starting by loving yourself first. Then, maybe, someone arrives and shows you how love isn't about hurt. To all victims out there: I hope you make it out of there. I hope it makes you love more and not close yourself! 🧡 Thank you, Sharon, From a Capricorn guy that loves your music more than you'll ever know!

Yes, your interpretation is very similar to mine. It reminded me of the relationship I had with a man for 10 years; a relationship doomed to permanent night. We were stuck in a cycle of heroin abuse, abusing each other, letting ourselves shrink until we were barely ever seen. I try not to think about it much because it still breaks my heart. The years of loss and absolute waste. Chained to a wall and tied to our bed is exactly how it felt, I was young and I spent my time wrapped up in an opiate haze of devotion to a man who threw me across the room and slammed my head on the floor, as no dog should ever, ever be treated... much less a woman who had surrendered every bit of her power and will to live. It's hard to believe how much my heart has blossomed and become limitless in my ability to feel love and compassion and admiration for other human beings. I love them from afar, however. I'm extraordinarily reclusive, but my love is immeasurable.

I hadn't gotten to the 'read more' part of your comment. And there it is, the words that make my eyes well up and my heart swell to near bursting. I suppose I was a willful victim, I was unbearably lost and for too long I was beyond rescue. My life, such as it is now, is better in many, many ways. I'm away from him and the toxic depths of drug abuse and I find happiness in surprising places. Thank you for having such an incredible heart and soul, your words are a balm... I've let out more than one ragged breath as I listen to Sharon and respond to you. This song is deeply personal and evocative for me, she describes precisely how it was..."you were high and I was doomed..." trying to drive a car that was spinning wildly in an endless series of whitewater rapids. It's truly a miracle I'm alive after drowning for ten solid years. I am grateful and I'll never stop looking for redemption.

The way you treated me was fucked up, but I chose to stay. You tricked me into taking care of you, but I tricked myself into thinking I could fix you. I mistook the drama for passion. I bought the lies willingly. I was insecure and desperate for love, no matter how twisted a version it was. Now I know it would be a disgrace to call the thing that happened between us "love." But you were a hurting person, however flawed, and I hope that hurt doesn't torment you. I hope you find a better life than the one I tried and failed to pull you out of. And that's what this song makes me feel.
