Its pretty difficult to get stationed there unless the timing lined up they also try to avoid it being a first duty station for us because the type of airfield makes it harder to train any new person

Thinking about cross training into airfield management, how is tech school and the work life balance ?
@Bruce.lee94
4 ай бұрын
Tech school is pretty quick about a month and you’re done. Work life balance depends on the base if you can get one where the airfield is not 24/7 its easier for a family. Work you have a lot of downtime so doing school on shift is what a lot of people do. Once you get higher in rank (E-6) and get put on admin hours its a lot easier for family life but work life gets dull i enjoyed my time on the counter more than being in the back office

No i havent and not many of us in air force ever really do. Unless you do like special forces (paratroopers) the chances of that are real slim. Been on 3 deployments so far and they all been very similar to this. Air Force almost always gets deployed to bases that are already established. Marines and Army usually are the ones experiencing the combat if thats what you were looking to do.

Pretty easy transfer you can work at almost any airport a lot of bases also hire civilians. Most of us get a good amount of our credits for an aviation management degree just from training.

ATC is also a very good choice! As far as choosing your base you do get a “dream sheet” you can pick 7 bases you would like to go to and if the Air For has openings at those bases for your rank theres a chance to get stationed there. Its not always guaranteed but you can always re apply afterwards
